Fairview Health Services Registered Nurse / RN - Operating Room in Maple Grove, Minnesota
Overview
We at Fairview Health Services are looking for a driven Registered Nurse to work as a circulator in the operating room Maple Grove Ambulatory Care Center! This is a casual position, meaning all hours are as needed; needed hours will be day shifts with variable start times, currently Monday-Friday shifts. The Surgery Center is open Monday - Friday between the hours of 6:30am and 4:00pm.
Fairview Maple Grove Ambulatory Surgery Center is a partnership with University of MN Physicians where you will find more than 20 medical specialties in one convenient location. Our patients have access to specialty care for pediatrics and adults which also includes a cancer center, breast center and the ambulatory surgery center.
4 Operating Rooms and 4 Endoscopic Procedure rooms
Primary service areas include ENT, Plastics and Reconstruction, Pediatrics, GYN, Ortho, Urology, Ophthalmology, and General Surgery.
Responsibilities Job Description
The Registered Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care for all assigned patient population(s). The RN is responsible for performing these responsibilities in accordance with all policy, procedures, professional practice guidelines and the MN Nurse Practice Act. The RN coordinates care with members of the health care team and delegates responsibilities to others as appropriate
Responsibilities include but aren’t limited to-
The OR RN establishes an environment of safety for the patient being served.
Implements protective measures prior to operative or invasive procedure.
Confirms identity, verifies operative procedure, surgical site & laterality before the procedure
Applies safety devices & protective measures to prevent skin or tissue injury due to thermal, mechanical, electrical, laser, and/or chemical sources
Performs required counts & leads specimen handling & disposition, records devices implanted during the procedure
Evaluates for signs & symptoms of injury as a result of positioning. Identifies physical alterations that require additional precautions for procedure specific positioning. Provides for safe patient transfer
The RN assess , diagnose , implement & evaluate treatments & procedures that contribute to the physiological stability of the surgical patient.
Applies principles of aseptic technique while establishing & maintaining sterile fields
Performs skin preparations
Ensures perioperative environmental sanitation
Administers care to wound site & has knowledge of sterilization methods, Monitors for wound contamination, classifies the surgical wound
Manages culture specimen collection
Implements, monitors & evaluates thermoregulation measures
This RN may scrub during operative procedures. Knowledge about the psychologic , sociologic, & spiritual responses of patients & their families during a procedure can be beneficial.
Notes sensory impairments & assesses coping mechanisms
Identifies barriers to communication & determine knowledge level while explaining the expected sequence of events.
Identifies psychosocial status & implements measures to provide psychological support
Qualifications
Required
1 year of OR registered nurse experience
Current Minnesota Registered Nurse License
Basic Life Support (BLS)
Preferred
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
2 years of OR Registered Nurse experience
