The Impact You’ll Make in this RoleThe Systems Manufacturing Technology group leads 3M in the areas of data analytics, data automation, and automated inspection to improve manufacturing operations across 3M. This person will work closely with software development and application engineering teams to enable deployment and usage of core digital technologies. They will provide leadership in the convergence of Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT) technologies. This is an opportunity to advance and differentiate the way in which these technologies are deployed today.
As a Systems Engineer you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:
Lead improvement initiatives for computer system architecture, including deployment automation and next generation architecture designs
Computer system administration including server patching and vulnerability remediation
Configure and deploy new computer systems along with ongoing support of existing computer infrastructure
Design, develop, and maintain system automation to manage new and existing platforms
Serve as point person between Engineering-Manufacturing Technology and corporate IT, develop a strong partnership across these groups, and provide strategic guidance to ensure successful computer system deployments in an ever-changing IT-OT landscape
Support systems across the global 3M manufacturing footprint, including on-call system support
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Computer Engineering Information systems
-OR-
Three (3) years in full-time Systems Engineer/Analyst/Administrator role
-AND-
One (1) year experience with server imaging and setup of windows applications
One (1) year experience with system security vulnerabilities and remediation thereof
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
Five (5) or more years’ experience in full-time Systems Engineer role
Experience with 3M IT corporate systems
Leadership of large, system-level projects
Ability to troubleshoot complex systems and provide guidance to solution
Experience with core tools such as Hyper V virtual machines, Microsoft SQL, Active Directory, PowerShell
Software development experience
Strong leadership, communication, organization, and team skills.
Work location:
- Onsite- Maplewood, MN
Travel: May include up to 20% US domestic & international, primarily to 3M manufacturing locations
Relocation Assistance: May be authorized

Applicable to US Applicants Only:The expected compensation range for this position is $95,825 - $117,120, which includes base pay plus variable incentive pay, if eligible. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific compensation offered to a candidate may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s relevant knowledge, training, skills, work location, and/or experience.
