Here, you will make an impact by:Developing and implementing industrial controls systems for the efficient operation of advanced process equipment.Integrating diverse process equipment into a single operation using industry best practices and documentation.Applying industrial controls systems to enable the processing of films, adhesive, nonwovens, and other high-value articles.Developing advanced ultrasonics processes and control algorithms in collaboration with the Corporate Research Process Lab Ultrasonics technology team.Developing advanced informatics systems for Corporate Research Process Lab and 3M process lines.Designing and integrating advanced industrial controls schemes which may include feedback control, nonlinear models, and advanced sensors.Driving successful technology scale-up from laboratory to manufacturing and assisting with troubleshooting process and product quality issues.Effectively documenting, communicating, and disseminating research results through the framework of 3M's new technology and product introduction programs.Providing industrial controls systems expertise to support manufacturing operations and transfer technology to 3Ms technical community through consulting and teaching.Supporting existing lines through troubleshooting and advancing capabilities through consolidation and standardization of codeYour Skills and ExpertiseTo set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related Engineering discipline (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited university.One (1) year of professional experience developing industrial control systems in a private, public, government, or military environment.Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:A Masters or Ph.D. degree with demonstrated expertise in industrial controls systems logic and theoryStrong understanding of industrial controls systems logic and theory. Ability to integrate diverse process equipment into a single operation using industry best practices and documentation.Over 3 years of experience in industrial controls systems and industrial manufacturing in a private, public, government or military environmentExperience with precision mechanics/mechatronics is preferredExperience with industrial controls for ultrasonic and robotics is preferredEvidence of strong, hands-on skills with industrial manufacturing including experience with equipment integration, programming, design for safety, and industrial control systemsExperience with a wide range of PLCs including Beckhoff and Allen Bradley systems.Skills relating to the following: PLC programming, python or C software development, open source software development, Linux operating system, GithubDemonstrated experience with sensor integration and/or feedback controlExcellent interpersonal skills and the ability to excel in cross-functional environmentsMust be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status).Supporting Your Well-being3M offers many programs to help you live your best life both physically and financially. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position.
