Union Tank Car (UTLX) Human Resources Generalist in Marion, Ohio

 Union Tank Car Company is currently looking for a Human Resources Generalist to join our growing team. This position will be based at our Marion, OH location!

 

Position Summary:

The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for assisting and ensuring facility operations are adequately staffed while attaining high employee satisfaction and engagement. Assists with and administers corporate policies relating to compensation, benefits, employee relations, training, and health and safety programs. Maintains and updates employee records, various reports and provides employee coaching on work-related matters. The incumbent will assist with negotiating collective bargaining agreements. This position will seek consultative guidance from Corporate HR.

 

Essential Functions:

 

Primary responsibilities and/or essential functions include, but are not limited to:

  • Experienced in working in a Union Environment preferred
  • Develop strategy, addressing employee-related issues
  • Monitor absenteeism
  • Monitor turnover
  • Promote positive morale
  • Organize programs to engage employees
  • Recruit and retain talent
  • Onboard and train employees in HR policies
  • Assist with and lead employee relations -- conflict resolution, complaint investigation, employee recognition
  • Maintain employee records
  • Remain current with laws and policies
  • Participate in and support quality projects and initiatives to ensure that the company achieves its goals
  • Conduct facility walks on each shift identifying engaging employees
  • Spend time on off-shifts
  • Conduct stay interview
  • Participate in and encourage community involvement
  • Partner with recruitment agencies, technical and community colleges
  • Promote incentive for referrals
  • Attendance of departmental Toolbox Talks
  • Engage with employees to develop transparent communication

Qualifications and Experience:  

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field required or equivalent experience in Human Resources
  • Minimum of 3 years progressive HR experience in a lean manufacturing/repair environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Builds and effectively manages interpersonal relationships across all levels of the company
  • People-oriented and results-driven
  • Knowledge of HR systems and databases along with tracking metrics
  • In-depth knowledge of labor law and HR best practices
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
