Job Description:

Parsons is a leader in the design and construction of rail and transit systems, committed to delivering innovative and sustainable solutions that enhance transportation infrastructure. Our full-service team utilizes advanced 3D modeling to provide comprehensive design, construction, and technology integration for clients across North America. Parsons is seeking an experienced mechanical engineer to join our Rail and Transit division as a Senior Mechanical Engineer . The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in HVAC, snow-melting, smoke management, plumbing, and fire protection systems and controls design for large-scale transit projects (new and retrofit). This role would be based in the Greater Toronto Area Region.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and lead the design of HVAC systems, snowmelt, plumbing and drainage systems, ventilation, fire protection and controls using AutoCAD, REVIT, NavisWorks, HAP, Train Trace and Energy Plus.

  • Responsible to lead internal Designers and Engineers with a primary focus to manage the mechanical design and resolve technical challenges to reach a design solution that meets all requirements including specifications, codes and standards and adheres to Parsons QAQC processes.

  • Prepare calculations, engineering design plans, technical reports, specifications, cost estimates, and present to internal and external stakeholders

  • Ensuring effective design coordination across disciplines. Participate in design coordination meetings and address critical issues as it pertains to mechanical design within an interdisciplinary team (architects, and engineers, as well as building automation and control, electrical and mechanical trade contractors).

  • Mentor and develop junior-intermediate mechanical design and engineering staff. Provide functional guidance and support to enhance technical and non-technical skills.

  • Review shop drawings and technical documentation for compliance.

  • Contribute to proposal preparation, develop and verify technical scopes, and assist with budget and schedule planning and management.

  • Be a leader within the Project Team to ensure the successful delivery of high-quality rail transportation projects on time, meeting client expectations and objectives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering;

  • Designation as a Professional Engineer in Ontario;

  • 15+ years’ mechanical engineering and design experience for the design of mechanical systems for both new and retrofit transit stations and facilities.

  • Demonstrated experienced in the design of HVAC systems, snowmelt, plumbing and drainage systems, ventilation, fire protection and controls;

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, codes, and standards (e.g. NBC, OBC, CSA, NFPA, ASHRAE, SMACNA, LEED).

  • Detailed understanding of local authorities codes and design standards;

  • Proficiency in relevant software to mechanical design, such as AutoCAD, NavisWorks for BIM interface, REVIT, HAP, Train Trace and Energy Plus;

  • Experience on CM progressive design-build, design-build, and P3 contract delivery is an asset;

  • Demonstrated experience on large scale interdisciplinary projects with mechanical design leadership responsibilities and interface with a multi-disciplinary team;

  • Must have an advanced understanding of quality standards relative to mechanical design and planning, engineering Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with fluency in English;

  • Organizational and mentoring skills.

  • Ability to work independently with high attention to detail and accuracy in work.
