Your Opportunity

Transit and Rail Managers plan, design, and direct engineering projects that focus on transportation systems such as such as highways, streets, bridges, tunnels, drainage structures, roadway lighting, airports, railroads, and commuter trains, of unique and complicated nature. Routinely, investigate and advise on unusual and difficult problems encountered in the transportation engineering practice, that require innovative solutions. This position applies advanced engineering principles and has a solid working knowledge of advanced technical research within the transportation engineering field. The position may require the modification of established guidelines and initiation of new approaches. The role requires independent decisions in planning, organizing and completing technical assignments. Evaluates complex, special and advanced engineering tasks. Collaborates with engineers in other disciplines to augment project solutions. Advises on technical problems and supervision, and may plan, schedule and review work of professional engineers and technicians. Support positioning for potential projects, by writing technical portions of proposals, participating in client interviews and supporting negotiations for project contracts. Represents the organization in client meetings and leverages established relationships to pursue opportunities to secure additional work. May act as internal consultant providing technical guidance on most complex projects; writes technical papers and may be sought to participate on boards of other companies. May provide work leadership and training to lower level professional and technical staff. Actively participates in local professional organization(s) and sought out by others as an expert; engages in regional or national activities.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible to plan, direct, and coordinate complex assignments independently; modify established technical guidelines and standards; and initiate new approaches.

  • Serve as senior project manager, performing in depth evaluation and alternative analyses to support project decisions and resolve unusual and complex situations. Responsible for evaluating the structure to ensure that it meets all federal and local codes and specifications.

  • Liaise with clients as a designated contact, on regulatory and/or funding agencies, and others to obtain and determine project requirements and approvals.

  • Support/Lead marketing and business development professionals in positioning for potential projects, writing technical portions of proposals, participating in client interviews and supporting negotiations for project contracts. Provides cost estimates and budget projections for technical proposals.

  • Support Project Manager(s) with technical evidenced proposals as project issues arise with clients, contractors, equipment suppliers/vendors, or reviewing agencies.

  • Support business cases for project decisions through environmental impact assessments and evaluation of project risks.

  • Manage, direct, and monitor progress of the transportation engineering technical elements within each phase of a project.

  • Provide guidance to other team members as an internal technical expert.

  • Contribute to the development of new standards and specifications of transportation engineering design.

  • Supervise and monitor client relationship strategies.

  • Maintain and identify opportunities to expand existing business.

  • Participate in the development of the regional marketing strategy to develop business and strategic plans as needed.

  • Confirm adherence to construction specifications during each phase of a project. Monitor project progress, inspect construction sites, and verify calculations and placements.

  • Engineer of record on own work product and that of more junior staff.

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of Bachelor's Degree Engineering

  • Minimum 20 years of related work experience or, an equivalent combination of education and experience to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required or ability to successfully obtain within twelve (12) months.
