Job Description

Supervise and direct all functions of the regional repair facility in the Upper Peninsula (UP). Position responsibilities include setting priorities among multi-divisional equipment and scheduling repairs and services. Conducted cost analysis on the efficiency and effectiveness of repair/replacement options. Possess the ability to work as a functional heavy equipment mechanic to assist in emergency repairs when needed. On-site manager of the facility including Right to Know and other MIOSHA regulations to ensure proper training and safe actions by employees. Review work requests, assign to shop staff, and procure parts and supplies to ensure efficient workflow. This position is the liaison for local fire departments seeking parts and vehicles from the Federal Excess Property program and coordinates the assignment and disposal of excess property for the Forest Resources Division.

Possession of a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is required for transporting heavy equipment using semis or similar large vehicles on public roads.

Six years of experience assisting skilled trades workers in the repair and maintenance of heavy equipment, including two years equivalent to a Heavy Equipment Mechanic E10 or one year equivalent to a Heavy Equipment Mechanic 11.

Paid Parental Leave:Eligible employees can take 12 weeks of paid leaveimmediately after a birth or adoption to allow needed time together at home with a new child.
