Work Schedule:Traditionally Monday-Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm

One position is available and the position will be filled at the level consistent with the selected applicant's experience. Levels include: Preventive Maintenance Technician Trainee or Preventive Maintenance Technician.

Salary:Preventive Maintenance Technician Trainee: $20.91 starting $21.97 working; Preventive Maintenance Technician: $22.67 starting; $23.81 working

Brief Statement of Duties

Brief Statement of Duties:Preventive Maintenance Technician Trainee:

Under the guidance of a Preventive Maintenance Technician and/or supervisor, accomplish various tasks associated with the routine and preventive maintenance on heating, ventilation and air-conditioning equipment and other components in assigned University building(s). Assist with supporting the energy management system in maintaining electronic controls for satisfactory comfort levels to building occupants.

Preventive Maintenance Technician:

Under routine supervision, accomplish various tasks associated with the routine and preventive maintenance on heating, ventilation and air-conditioning equipment and other components in assigned University building(s). Support the energy management system in maintaining electronic controls for satisfactory comfort levels to building occupants.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education:High School Graduation or Equivalent

Discipline / Degree Area:

Required Specialized Training/Certifications:Must hold current and valid motor vehicle operator's license.

Required Minimum Work Experience:Preventive Maintenance Technician Trainee:

One year of experience in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning or similar mechanical equipment maintenance or one year of experience in building automation system software or any combination of education, training, or experience which fulfills the requirements of the position and needs.

Must enter into NMU's Preventive Maintenance Technician Training Program and complete the program requirements within two years and pass the program's final examination to move into the Preventive Maintenance Technician position.

Preventive Maintenance Technician:

Three years of experience in commercial and/or industrial building maintenance or any combination of education, training, or experience which fulfills the requirements of the position and needs.

Physical capability to perform all of the duties and responsibilities of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.

Ability to pass relevant oral, written and/or performance testing.

Valid motor vehicle operator's license.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, or Attributes Required for Satisfactory Performance of the Position Duties:KNOWLEDGE:

Preventive Maintenance Technician Trainee:

General knowledge of HVAC system operations and of materials, methods and tools needed for maintenance related repairs.

Working knowledge of computer applications, i.e. word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, internet, web-based programs.

Preventive Maintenance Technician:

General and working knowledge of relevant HVAC system operations and facilities management systems software.

General knowledge of relevant HVAC electronic and digital controls operations.

SKILLS:

Preventive Maintenance Technician Trainee:

Ability to learn equipment operation monitoring, troubleshooting, diagnosis, maintenance, and repair.

Demonstrated ability to follow and/or interpret written and oral directions.

Excellent critical thinking skills, good judgment; observant and able to effectively analyze situations and solve problems.

Effective interpersonal skills; able to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Strong organizational skills; able to plan work and handle multiple tasks and priorities.

Preventive Maintenance Technician:

Equipment operation monitoring, troubleshooting, diagnosis, maintenance, and repair where applicable.

Working knowledge of computer applications (i.e. word processing, spreadsheet, email, internet, web-based programs).

Preventive Maintenance Technician Trainee and Preventive Maintenance Technician:

Strong oral and written communication skills to effectively deal with a broad variety of people and prepare quality correspondence.

Excellent critical thinking skills, good judgment; able to effectively analyze situations and solve problems.

Effective interpersonal skills; able to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Strong organizational skills; able to plan work and handle multiple tasks and priorities.

Excellent customer service skills.

Additional Desirable Qualifications

Additional Desirable Qualifications:Preventive Maintenance Technician Trainee:

Completion of required courses for NMU's Preventive Maintenance Training Program or relevant training such as two year degree in HVACR, controls technology, or related field.

Demonstrated self-initiative associated with the willingness to improve personal skills and keep abreast of current technology.

Preventive Maintenance Technician:

Completion of relevant training such as two year degree in HVACR, controls technology, or related field.

Demonstrated effective supervisory experience.

Preventive Maintenance Technician Trainee and Preventive Maintenance Technician:

Specific experience in one or more relevant technical trades.

Specific experience in one or more relevant facilities management systems software.
