Reporting to the Mine Manager the position is responsible for the safe and efficient operations of all mining activities, including development work, drilling, blasting, loading, hauling and dewatering; as well as detailed coordination with Mine Maintenance, Mine Engineering, Geology, and Crushing groups. This role is based at our Mary River Mine in Nunavut.
Main Accountabilities
• Ensuring work procedures are followed and safety standards are adhered to (risk assessment, incident reporting & investigating, policy & procedures review, MOC, etc.).
• Mentor and provide performance feedback to team members and in particular to supervisors.
• Development and review of operational plans to ensure capability and delivery.
• Manage social problems as they occur and administer discipline as required.
• Support the development of the annual budget and 5-year operating / capital plans and develop capital justifications.
• Monitor the operating and capital expenditures.
• Participate to the Continuous Improvement process and implement opportunities to add value and increase the operations’ efficiency.
• Supports asset integrity reviews and development of action plans to address problems.
• Support development of the department's annual execution plan with area specific goals and objectives.
• Provide input and work collaboratively with peers and other departments to achieve safety, production and cost targets.
• Fill in for the Mine Manager as required.
Main Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Mining Engineering or Civil Engineering
At least 5 years in a supervisory role
10+ years of open pit mining experience
Professional Shift Boss or Supervisor Ticket in Nunavut (or with the capability to register)
Experience operating equipment or deep understanding of mobile equipment fundamentals
Work in extreme low temperatures down to minus 40 Celsius
Work a 3 weeks in and 3 weeks out rotation
