The Solid State Phased Array Radar System (SSPARS) Long Range Discrimination Radar (LRDR) Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the LRDR operations, ensuring the effective performance and reliability of radar systems critical to missile defense and space operations. This role manages LRDR operators and technicians, coordinates testing activities, and maintains standard operating procedures to optimize performance. The LRDR Operations Manager reviews system performance data, oversees training programs, and leads investigations into system issues. They will prepare regular operational reports and communicate with the Combined Space Operations Center (CSpOC), Missile Defense Agency (MDA), and other stakeholders to support ballistic missile defense (BMD) and space domain awareness (SDA). This position ensures mission readiness and reports to the Site Manager.

Responsibilities

Major Job Activities:

  • Supervise and manage LRDR operators and technicians, ensuring they adhere to operational protocols, training requirements, and performance standards.

  • Oversee the daily operation of the LRDR, providing technical guidance and support to ensure mission-critical radar operations are conducted effectively and efficiently on a 24/7 basis.

  • Coordinate with Air Force Operational Test and Evaluation (AFOTEC), military personnel, and other contractors to support testing activities such as Development, Test and Evaluation (DT&E), Operational Test and Evaluation (OT&E), and Installation, Checkout, and Evaluation (ICE) testing.

  • Develop, implement, and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs) for LRDR operations to enhance performance and reliability.

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, policies, and procedures, including security requirements for classified information up to Top Secret/SCI level.

  • Review and analyze system performance data, including radar track data, system logs, and calibration results, to identify issues and implement corrective actions.

  • Facilitate the documentation and reporting of operations, including operational logs, problem reports, deficiency reports, and change forms for software and system modifications.

  • Provide oversight for the development and execution of training programs to ensure technical competency of all LRDR personnel.

  • Lead investigations into system outages, operational degradations, or anomalies and provide analysis to the Director of Operations (DO), Operations Support, and other relevant stakeholders.

  • Prepare and deliver regular reports and briefings on operational status, system performance, and readiness to senior leadership and external agencies.

  • Maintain communication with the Combined Space Operations Center (CSpOC), Missile Defense Agency (MDA), and other external agencies to ensure alignment on mission objectives and operational requirements.

  • Support contingency operations and mission taskings related to ballistic missile defense (BMD) and space domain awareness (SDA).

  • Ensure proper archiving and maintenance of critical system logs and documentation.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

    Material & Equipment Directly Used:

    US Space Force (USSF) classified and unclassified computer systems, LRDR control panels, radar operation consoles, SIPRNET, NIPRNET, C2BMC systems, and video conferencing tools.

    Working Environment:

  • Primarily office-based at the LRDR site, with regular interaction in a computing center environment.

  • May require extended hours or weekends to meet mission requirements.

  • Occasional travel may be required to support on/off-site testing or training activities.

    Physical Activities:

  • Sitting for extended periods while monitoring radar operations.

  • Walking and standing during inspections and coordination with other teams.

  • Lifting and moving items such as documents or equipment weighing up to 20 pounds.

  • Reaching and bending to access control panels and equipment.

  • Climbing ladders or using step stools to access high equipment.

Qualifications

Education / Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Space Studies, Computer Science, or a related field is preferred.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen and possess a DoD Top Secret security clearance or be eligible to obtain and maintain one.

    Required Experience:

  • 10-12 years of experience in radar operations, space operations, or a related field, with at least 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role.

  • Experience with Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS) operations and specific knowledge of radars such as LRDR, AN/TPY-2, Cobra Dane, and UEWRs.

  • Experience with Command Control, Battle Management and Communications (C2BMC), Ground-Based Midcourse Defense (GMD), and phased array radar operations is highly desirable.

    Skills & Technology Used:

    Strong understanding of radar systems, including design, performance, capabilities, and limitations.

    Supervisory / Budget Responsibilities:

    May supervise subordinate workers performing radar operations, activities, and services.
