Position Purpose:

This position accepts the responsibility and accountability for the delivery of patient care during the Same Day Surgery patients’/families’ stay through the use of the nursing process. Directs patient/family education and delegates to ancillary personnel while maintaining professional nursing standards.

What you will Do:

  • Assesses Same Day Surgery patient’s physical, psychosocial, environmental, spiritual, social and education needs. (Communication)

  • Develops a plan of care on admission. Reviews and updates the plan based on changes in the patient’s condition. Calls patients pre and post operatively and includes data in overall plan of care. (Problem Identification)

  • Implements the plan of care, including the discharge plan, based on standards of nursing practice, health center policy, and patient/family needs on admission. (Problem Solving)

  • Evaluates and documents patient/family responses to nursing interventions while working collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to achieve desired patient care outcomes. (Teamwork)

  • Recognizes personal learning and development needs. Participates in developing their yearly performance goals. Creates a plan for professional or personal growth. (Self Aware)

  • Provides or facilitates learning opportunities to meet the educational needs of patient/family by assessing the learning needs and formulating and initiating a teaching plan to meet those needs, and assisting for educational barrier. (Initiative)

  • Guides and directs patient care activities to customize the above-indicated population by utilizing clinical/critical thinking skills. (Problem Identification and Problem Solving)

  • Effectively communicates pertinent patient changes/conditions to coworkers and to multidisciplinary caregivers. (Communication, Teamwork)

Hours/Schedule:

Full Time 36hrs a week, Varied hours, Monday through Friday, no call, no holidays

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Graduate of a program in professional nursing required

  • Current RN licensure in the state of Iowa required

  • Must have demonstrated competence in an acute care setting for at least one year.

  • Ability to work flexible hours.

  • Must have basic computer skill
