Concrete Finisher Job Responsibilities

Smooth and finish surfaces of poured concrete, such as floors, sidewalks, or curbs using a variety of hand and power tools. Align forms for sidewalks, curbs, or gutters; patch voids: and use saws to cut expansion joins.

Key Duties:

  • Concrete finisher shall have knowledge and experience in setting, staking, and bracing forms for all types of concrete slabs including plain slabs, turned-down slabs, curbs, curb and gutter, sidewalks, floors, aprons, steps, short retaining walls, etc. Finisher shall know all aspects of setting forms to line and grade, understand how to set forms for all thicknesses of concrete from 2 inches to 12 inches, and shall be equally experienced at setting straight forms and radius forms at all thickness.
  • Concrete finisher shall have general knowledge and experience in working with concrete such as knowing how to estimate quantities and order concrete, the effects of different mix designs (2,500 psi vs. 6,000 psi for example), slumps, additives, ambient temperature and temperature of the concrete, protecting of newly finished surfaces, the effects of weather, and the application of curing and sealing compounds.
  • Concrete finisher shall have broad knowledge of concrete placing and finishing operations including placing, striking off, setting and working off of wet screeds, bull floating, hand floating, edging, jointing, troweling and brooming concrete. Finisher shall understand joint layout and be equally comfortable with producing tooled joints or sawed joints. Finisher is also expected to have broad experience in using power trowels and adept at producing hard troweled finishes on large concrete floors.
  • Concrete finisher shall have skill and knowledge in producing all types of finishes including hard steel trowel, rubbed, and broom finishes required for concrete floors, sidewalks, sidewalks with turned down edges, stoops, steps, curbs, curb and gutters, docks, aprons, drain collars, etc.
  • Concrete finisher is expected to possess all common concrete finishing hand tools that can be reasonably be carried in a tool bag or bucket such as magnesium and wood floats, trowels, edgers, jointers, radius tools, brushes, margin trowels, etc

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
