Trinity Health Ophthalmic Assistant - Ophthalmology in Maywood, Illinois

Maywood

Perform basic and routine eye examination procedures to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of eye

diseases and problems. Explain diagnostic and treatment procedures to patients.

PATIENT CARE - Under supervision, performs patient diagnostics work-ups including blood pressure, measuring visual acuity, color and stereopsis testing and reviewing patient glasses prescription (via

lensometer).

Obtains pertinent past and present medical history and chief complaint of patients, (including radial Keratotomy work-up).

Determines spectacles correction by means of refractometry (both automatic and manual) manifest refractometry.

Performs tonometry to assess intraocular pressure (application and tonopen). Performs and supervises visual fields (Humphrey and Goldman) to assist in diagnosing and teaching progression of medical conditions. Performs corneal topography, manual keratometry and lensometry. Assists with newborn patient exams.

Performs potential acuity measures (PAM) and brightness acuity testing (BAT).

Performs pachymetry to measure corneal thickness.

Applies pressure patches as indicated by physician.

Minimum Education:

Required: Associates Degree OR equivalent training acquired via work experience or education

Preferred: Administrative or technical background acquired through completion of 2 - 3 years

of college

Preferred: 1-2 years of previous job-related experience

Other: After graduation from an ophthalmic technician education course, staff in the Ophthalmic

Assistant position are required to become certified ophthalmic assistants within the first year of

employment.
