Office of the Director of National Intelligence Internal Communications Officer in McLean, Virginia

Summary The Office of Strategic Communications is the trusted voice of the ODNI. We are transforming the way the ODNI engages with the public, the media, and the workforce while investing in our employees. This position gives you the chance to do what all of those movie producers and writers wish they could - tell the Intelligence Community story from the inside. We are seeking creative, dynamic and forward thinking communicators to develop and deliver our story to a wide range of audiences. Responsibilities As an Internal Communications Officer, you will create, curate, and organize information to achieve communication objectives for ODNI. The ideal candidate has a background in developing communications solutions that deliver the right content to the right people in the right place at the right time. You are an excellent communicator, capable of crafting powerful narratives across a variety of platforms. You are constantly learning, partnering with subject matter experts, writers, and leadership to develop the internal communications products. You are also a strategic thinker, exploring new ways to both tell and present information for the maximum impact. Finally, you thrive under deadlines, delivering succinct and effective products quickly. Research topics, conduct interviews, write news, feature and explanatory articles for ODNI internal publications, ODNI websites and blogs to facilitate understanding of the ODNI's mission, goals, and strategies to the ODNI and Intelligence Community workforces, respectively. Write and edit workforce messages, articles, and communication materials for the ODNI, National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC), and IC workforces in support of providing timely, relevant, and important information to facilitate understanding of the ODNI's, NCTC's, and the broader IC's mission, vision, and goals. Contribute to the development, planning, and implementation of internal communication strategies and roll-out plans to support key ODNI activities and initiatives. Assist in developing and producing content for new and emerging communication vehicles, such as blogs, audio, video, and online publications to ensure that key messages are available to all members of the IC. Coordinate with appropriate ODNI staff officials to obtain, review, and when necessary, improve the effectiveness of information to be communicated to the ODNI and IC audiences. Cultivate and maintain productive working relationships with staff in other communications organizations in the Intelligence Community (IC), and, as appropriate, members of the media, community leaders, policy groups, and/or concerned constituencies to provide information about ODNI mission, programs, and activities. Monitor and evaluate the impact of ODNI internal communication efforts, and provide structured recommendations and innovative solutions to maximize the effectiveness of communication across the IC. Schedule, coordinate and manage logistics for internal ODNI and NCTC events and forums, such as town halls, panel discussions, guest speakers, presentations, and special events, to advance the DNI's, PDDNI's and COO's, objectives and enhance his/her visibility in the community. Plan, develop, and produce informational materials concerning ODNI mission, programs, and activities for dissemination to stakeholders and obtain feedback on the effectiveness of these materials. Requirements Conditions of Employment Must be a current permanent ODNI employee. OR Must be a current permanent Federal employee Must have supervisory approval to apply to the Joint Duty Assignment. Must be currently at the grade level of the detail. No Temporary Promotion Opportunity The program does not apply to members of the Military service or contractors. Qualifications Demonstrated oral and written communication skills with the ability to conduct independent research, filter and synthesize data, and produce clear, logical, and concise products. Demonstrated interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with a variety of audiences and convey information to a variety of audiences with different levels of comprehension of ODNI's mission, vision and goals Demonstrated analytical and critical thinking skills, including the ability to think strategically and to develop and produce complex public affairs information and materials. Demonstrated experience managing small and large-scale projects that contribute to a larger strategic communications plan. Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities under strict deadlines while maintaining a high level of attention to detail; demonstrated ability to work effectively with ODNI's senior leaders in a high profile and demanding office. Extensive knowledge of the ODNI, IC, Congress, and the overall national security apparatus. Salary Determination: A current Federal Government employee, selected for a detail, will be assigned to the position at their current grade and salary.
