Baptist Memorial Advisor - Public Relations in Memphis, Tennessee

Summary

Qualified candidates for Baptist's public relations advisor role should be experienced public relations practitioners who work strategically and are adept at developing strategic communications plans and planning news events, have excellent writing skills, are proficient at building and maintaining relationships with news media and capable of counseling and advising executives and other spokespeople. This is an exciting position that plays a significant role in communications strategy and works closely with the marketing and internal communications team to meet business priorities and project a positive image for the organization. Additionally, candidates should stay current with PR practices, communications trends and analytical/measurement trends.

Responsibilities

  • Liaise with news media, promoting a positive image of the organization to the public

  • Resolve and mediate communications difficulties, issues and crises

  • Develop internal and external communications strategies

  • Coach, educate and advise employees and leaders on effective communication strategies and responses

  • Write news materials and other media communications, including news releases, briefing documents, positioning statements, communication plans, corporate messaging, new hire announcements, Q&As, executive speeches/speaking points/presentations/decks, social media posts, etc.

  • Assist in developing and editing communications materials/collateral for internal and external audiences

  • Establish and maintain relationships with clients, executives, news media and others as appropriate

  • Develop public relations strategies that influence public opinion and promote products, ideas and services

  • Confer with managers to identify trends, business opportunities and emerging issues

  • Plan and organize news events

  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements, Preferences and Experience

Education

Minimum: Bachelor's degree in public relations, communications, English literature, journalism or a related field

Experience

Preferred: !!

Minimum:

  • 5-7+ years of experience in public relations with proven success

  • Understanding of social media and solid experience working with bloggers

Special Skills

Minimum:

  • Strong writing and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to conduct research and write strategic plans

  • Experience advising and counseling executives/spokespeople

  • Ability to pitch stories to news media

  • Strong organizational, project management and event planning skills

  • Ability to think both tactically and strategically

  • Ability to run PR campaigns that deliver measurable results and meet objectives

  • Deadline-oriented, with great follow-up and reporting skills

  • Creativity in securing coverage and buzz with news outlets

  • Responds well under pressure with strict time limits

  • Strong influencing and persuasion skills are essential

Training

Preferred: !!!!

Minimum:

  • Knowledge of PR best practices

  • Knowledge of consumer marketing practices

  • Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
