We have an excellent opportunity for an Executive Director in our Memphis market! The Executive Director is responsible for developing and driving an overall market plan that achieves ground-breaking growth in revenue, community impact operations and volunteerism.

This role serves as the face of the American Heart Association by building a network and being engaged in visible key community organizations that are mutually beneficial for driving the organization's brand, mission and priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Leads all aspects of planning and successful execution of fundraising activities in assigned area with standard methodologies. Provides management expertise, coaching, and monitoring for fundraising events, including Heart Walk, Heart Ball, GRFW (Go Red For Women), Workplace Giving, Life Is Why We Give, Cause and related events (as applicable) to ensure significant growth of events and focused attention by staff year-round

  • Oversees achievement of the American Heart Association's campaign and health impact goals. Provides strategic vision and leadership in planning, execution, monitoring and on-going evaluation of the health impact in the market in alignment with priorities and the corresponding community plan.

  • Actively partners with board and/or ELT (Executive Leadership Team) committees to ensure that participants are knowledgeable, engaged and committed to the organization and its priorities.

  • Participates in the sourcing of top-quality staff and volunteers who are corporate and community leaders, reflective of the organization's priorities and community demographics

  • Develops strategic plan for volunteer and staff successor management

  • Monitors the financial activities, income and expenditures, of the assigned area

  • Oversees local communications director to ensure optimum levels of support and coverage for all activities and initiatives

  • Ensures appropriate and timely record management including computerized donor record management and follow-up

  • Partners and manages relationships with community health organizations to ensure integration and collaboration with cultural health initiatives, quality improvement initiatives, heart and stroke initiatives and advocacy

  • Ensures unification and alliance with the Mission Advancement Team along with staff in other markets to improve donor contributions and sponsorship potential and impact

  • Uses volunteer committees to assist in the planning, development, and implementation of events

  • Conducts field visits with volunteers and staff and attends all ELT orientations and majority of ELT meetings

  • Supports and ensures execution of National and Affiliate policies, procedures, standards, benchmarks, and guidelines

  • Ensures the integrity and security of donor information and adheres to the organization's Special Event Cash Handling policies

  • Uses effective management techniques in the selection, supervision, monitoring, training and counseling of staff to achieve organizational objectives. Creates and maintains a professional work environment that fosters and values collaboration, trust, teamwork, empowerment, professionalism and diversity

  • Effectively supervise and coach staff in accordance with applicable policies, practices and employment laws

  • Other duties and projects may be assigned to the role, which provide general assistance as needed to support the mission of the American Heart Association

Qualifications

  • University/College degree or equivalent experience, preferred

  • 5 years of experience in non-profit fundraising, executive volunteer management, or corporate sales with 3 years of managerial experience preferably with fundraising staff in a similar organization

  • Experience working with community/public health issues

  • Ability to build powerful partnerships with corporate leaders and senior-level volunteers

  • Strong leadership skills to coach and mentor to our standard methodologies, timelines, and volunteer engagement practices to ensure revenue targets are reached

  • Track record of exceeding sales/fundraising goals and ensuring staff meet/exceed revenue goals

  • Knowledge and ability to identify, cultivate, recruit, and maintain relationships with top-level volunteers and partners

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, negotiation, and social skills

  • Willingness to work outside standard hours as needed, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends

  • Ability and willingness to travel daily 40% within your territory as well as occasional travel to other locations for meetings or training
