POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Cryomodule Repair and Maintenance Facility (CRMF) project is establishing a new set of facilities to repair and test supercomputing cryomodules under operational conditions. The mission of the CRMF project is to ensure the long-term performance of SLAC's superconducting linac cryomodules.

CRMF has an employment opportunity for a Sub-Project Manager with a strong technical and managerial background. This role involves overseeing and managing Sub-Project A (SP-A), which encompasses the technical systems of the CRMF Project. Reporting to the Project Director, the Sub-Project Manager will be responsible for planning and coordinating SP-A to ensure the project's mission is achieved in terms of technical scope, cost, schedule, and resource allocation.

Given the nature of this position, SLAC is open to on-site, hybrid and fully remote work options.

Specific Responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • Serve as the Design Authority for the Sub-Project A scope of work.

  • Planning and oversight of the CRMF SP-A scope of work at SLAC, contractors, and vendors, ensuring technical specifications and quality standards are met.

  • Review of budgeting and schedule planning carried out by Cost Account managers; determining that resources are adequate in quantity and quality to meet Project needs; presentations to the CRMF Change Control Board for the cryomodule and cryogenic distribution system areas of the project, determination that appropriate strategies for acquisition are appropriately planned and executed.

  • Carrying on Cost Account managers duty for some of the technical sub-systems.

  • Managing the SP-A staff.

  • Authority and responsibility for safety dimensions of CRMF Project work; Direct observation of CRMF work and workers; confirmation that Cost Account managers and their organizations are conforming to appropriate standards for safe work; confirmation that SLAC personnel assigned to carry out CRMF Project tasks are duly prepared by their management for CRMF work; confirmation that WPC is being properly adhered to and that potential hazards associated with CRMF systems and work are appropriately identified and mitigated during design, construction commissioning and subsequent operation.

  • Ensure that WPC is being properly adhered to and that potential hazards associated with CMRF SP-A work are appropriately identified and mitigated during design, construction commissioning and subsequent operation.

  • Critical evaluation of solutions to technical problems in areas of responsibility; choice of technical specifications to meet physics requirements and performance goals; identify and implement design strategies and goals for SP-A so as to globally minimize risk to the Project.

To be successful in this position you will bring:

  • B.S or M.S. in engineering (or equivalent subject matter) plus eight years of relevant experience in superconducting RF technology and operations or combination of education and relevant experience.

  • Previous experience in DOE funded construction projects under DOE order 413.3b is a plus

  • Proven leadership in a project environment providing effective oversight and guidance of operational, management and administrative issues

  • The ability to work to an aggressive but realistic schedule and effectively direct a team to achieve the schedule

  • Demonstrated experience leading high performing project and operational teams

  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and work effectively with funding and oversight organizations

  • Strong analytical and computational skills necessary to gather, organize and make well informed decisions

  • Experienced people leader, including leading in a multi-laboratory and matrixed environments

  • Experience working in an environment dedicated to quality, safety and customer service

  • Experience with CAD systems, and modeling software and Windows personal computers and associated software such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point

  • Flexibility to travel and work extended hours when required

The expected pay range for this position is $181,141 to $224,941 per annum at Stanford Work Location. The expected pay range for this position in Central Region is $152,590 to $175,342 per annum. SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory/Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
