A Brief Overview

The Director of Medical Planning, within Planning, Design & Construction (PD&C), is responsible for project planning service for all projects and is expected to exercise significant influence in relevant program, project, and policy. Assure compliance with applicable laws and standards of good practice governing the safety of health care facilities. Responsible for reviewing and developing policies that directly relate to the strategic and medical planning services, while utilizing the best strategic and facilities planning practices in coordinating projects within the capital plan.

What you will do

  • Provide feasibility studies, planning and master planning leadership for large strategic and cross-functional initiatives and oversee deliverable development to ensure business goals are met in collaboration with key stakeholders.

  • Work with the VP of PD&C in developing mutually agreed upon planning goals for the department.

  • Manage the Director of Planning budget within the guides and parameters established by the budget office and mutually agreed to by the Vice President.

  • Work with various service lines/departments and physician groups to translate business and operational plans into program requirements and space plans.

  • Partner with internal departments to ensure the program supports and reflects the ongoing operational standards, best practice and strategic initiatives of the organization.

  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with widely diverse groups including individuals at all levels both within and outside the organization.

  • Provide planning and programming guidelines and templates to maintain a cohesive planning approach throughout the Stanford Medicine Brand.

  • Support and participate in executive leadership meetings, integrated meetings among the Stanford entities PD&C supports and represents.

  • Develop and administer training programs focused on the topics of strategic, facility, and master planning.

  • Identify opportunities for innovation and process improvement to plan creative solutions.

  • Identify and develop the resource needs and internal capacity of the department, and facilitate strategic changes in project scope or assignment across the team.

  • Lead project teams and define roles and responsibilities of team members.

  • Define scope and planning requirements, early budgets, and high-level schedule requirements in conjunction with the PD&C Capital Improvement Project Directors.

  • Lead and manage on-going daily activities of staff including evaluating their work, influencing, coaching and supporting their professional development.

  • Exercise effective communication, both written and verbal, at all organizational levels and in situations requiring instructing, persuading, negotiating, conflict resolution, consulting and advising.

  • Maintain communications on a regular and timely basis, ensuring that all stakeholders are informed of relevant issues, status and required actions.

  • Ability to handle potentially sensitive situations by applying constructive skills in working with internal and external constituent groups.

  • Ability to resolve conflicts and/or negotiate with others to achieve positive results; establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationships.

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a work-related discipline/field from an accredited college or university

Experience Qualifications

  • Ten (10) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience

  • Ability to budget, make financial projections and write reports.

  • Knowledge of local, state and federal regulatory requirements related to areas of functional responsibility.

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $88.93 - $117.84 per hour

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
