City of Menominee Sewer Collection Maintenance Worker in Menominee, Michigan

COLLECTION MAINTENANCE WORKER

SUMMARY

Perform regular maintenance and minor repairs on the municipal sewer system such as flushing and cleaning the sewers and monitoring the lift station. Perform related duties as required.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Works under the direct supervision of the Street Commissioner or Collection Maintenance Crew Leader.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS

An employee on this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential duties: (These examples

not include

all of the tasks which the employee may be expected to perform).

  1. Clean and flush sewer mains regularly to clear out blockages and ensure proper flowage.
  2. Use a vactor to remove roots and other obstructions that are blocking the sewer.
  3. Regularly monitors and provides routine maintenance on the sewage lift stations to ensure proper flowage to the sewage treatment plant.
  4. Locates sewer laterals for utilities and builders to make hook ups and to prevent improper digging around the sewers.
  5. Investigates sewer problems at city homes. Checks the sewer mains and uses steel sewer tapes to unclog sewer laterals as needs require.
  6. Monitors the sewer system by checking the sewer main leakages or breaks and performs minor repairs to the sewer system.
  7. Perform other related maintenance duties for the sewer system and other departments as required.

ESSENTIAL FUNTIONS, QUALIFICATIONS AND KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES FOR EMPLOYMENT

All of the following functions, qualifications, knowledges, skills, abilities (KSA's) and duties are essential. An employee in this class, upon appointment, should have the equivalent of the following, with or without reasonable accommodation as required by the Americans With Disabilities Act.

Ability to physically perform manual labor requiring the need for sight, hearing, speech, mobility and the need for lifting up to 50 pounds to complete duties 1-6.

Ability to work effectively with fellow employees and the general public.

Insures that safety precautions are taken on all jobs.

Graduation from high school or equivalent.

A Commercial Driver's License is required with an N endorsement.
