Job Title: Developmental Coach (Non-Degreed)

Reports To: Program Administrator

Function: Using a trauma-informed system of care, Developmental Coaches work directly with the residents of Hope Village for Children, many of whom have faced emotional, behavioral, and/or perceptual challenges. The primary goal of the Developmental Coach is to empower residents to realize their physical, intellectual, and emotional potential. Through fostering healthy, positive relationships, Developmental Coaches create an atmosphere of respect, dignity, and cooperation. They play an active role in helping residents acquire and practice the skills necessary for cooperative and productive living, following individualized care plans. All children at Hope Village are considered victims of crime due to their experiences with trauma, abuse, abandonment, or neglect. Developmental Coaches provide victim-centered, trauma-informed, and crisis-focused care, attending regular training sessions on various topics related to their role.

Major Duties:

  • Interact with youth on a daily basis, providing direction and supervision for routine household and/or specialized activities.
  • Assist in establishing rules, procedures, and policies governing activities and behavior in the cottage.
  • Participate in planning schedules and supervision to ensure the safety and well-being of each child.
  • Instruct residents in life skills such as cooking, cleaning, time management, and personal hygiene.
  • Plan and supervise on and off-campus recreation, special events, and activities, participating as necessary.
  • Supervise residents' study and monitor educational progress, providing assistance when necessary.
  • Listen to residents' personal problems and refer them to the Treatment Team as needed.
  • Use MANDT training skills to redirect inappropriate behavior and encourage appropriate behavior.
  • Attend to residents' medical needs, including emergencies, first-aid for minor injuries, and administering medications as prescribed.
  • Provide transportation for residents to cottage or campus-related activities.
  • Participate in training related to the role and responsibilities of a Developmental Coach.
  • Attend and participate in all staff meetings.
  • Complete documentation in Social Solutions, including Daily Progress Notes, Daily Tasks, and/or Case Notes as required.
  • Participate in and document fire drills, disaster drills, and continuity of operations drills.
  • Demonstrate cultural sensitivity when interacting with residents and families.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding agency matters, including board, staff, and resident information.
  • Perform related or similar duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's Degree preferred; high school diploma/GED with experience and specialized training accepted.

Experience, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Minimum of two years' experience working with adolescents or young adults in daily living activities, addressing physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual needs.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Completion of mandated training, including orientation, ongoing staff development, and certifications in CPR, First Aid, and MANDT.
  • Ability to learn through classroom settings, role play, supervision, and independent work.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid Driver's License and insurability through the company's automobile insurance carrier.
  • Ability to pass background checks, drug screenings, physical exams, and other screenings as required by licensing agencies.
