East Mississippi State Hospital Direct Care Worker (State) in Meridian, Mississippi

This employer will be hosting a job fair on June 27, 2024 and June 28, 2024 from 1:00pm til 3:00pm at the Meridian WIN Job Center where they will be hiring on the spot!!!!!!

The Direct Care Worker will provide a safe and supportive environment for adult clients with mental illnesses, intellectual disabilities, chemical dependencies, and/or behavioral issues. This role involves supervising and assisting clients around the clock to help them function independently and manage behaviors that may be hostile or aggressive. The Direct Care Worker will also ensure adherence to unit rules and policies.

Responsibilities:

  1. Personal Care Assistance:

    • Supervise and assist clients with personal hygiene tasks such as bathing, shaving, shampooing, feeding, dressing, and other grooming activities.
    • Check water temperature by hand and with a thermometer before allowing clients to bathe or shower, recording the temperature daily.
  2. Sanitation:

    • Clean tubs and showers between each client's use.
  3. Clothing and Grooming:

    • Ensure clients are dressed appropriately for the season.
  4. Daily Monitoring:

    • Review assignment sheets daily.
    • Monitor assigned clients during waking and sleeping hours.
  5. Recreational Activities:

    • Assist and supervise clients during on-site and off-site recreational activities and group sessions.
  6. Accompaniment:

    • Accompany clients to lab, x-ray, dental, and medical appointments, recreational activities, barber and beauty shops, and run errands.
  7. Medical Assistance:

    • Assist with medical procedures as assigned.
  8. Vital Signs and Health Monitoring:

    • Take and record clients' vital signs, heights, weights, bowel movements, and sleeping patterns.
  9. Nutrition Monitoring:

    • Monitor and document the percentage of meals consumed by clients.
  10. Protective Devices:

    • Apply and monitor protective devices or restraints in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  11. Training and Development:

    • Attend assigned in-service training sessions.
    • Successfully complete CPR and restraint training.
  12. Laundry Assistance:

    • Assist clients in washing and drying their laundry.
  13. Laundry Management:

    • Gather, sort, count, label, and bag laundry for laundry services.
    • Receive, fold, store, and distribute laundry.
    • Maintain records of laundry and clothing as per clothing policy.
  14. Rule Enforcement:

    • Enforce unit rules and level systems according to program policy.
  15. Additional Duties:

    • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a similar role is preferred.
  • Ability to work with clients who have mental illnesses, intellectual disabilities, chemical dependencies, and/or behavioral issues.
  • Strong observational and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment and follow detailed instructions.
  • CPR and restraint training (provided by the hospital).

Working Conditions:

  • The role requires 24-hour supervision and assistance, including night shifts.
