The Department of UMHC Research Pharmacy is currently seeking a full time Clinical Informatics Research Pharmacist to work in Miami. The Clinical Informatics Research Pharmacist is responsible for improving clinical operations in the Investigational Drugs Services (IDS) / Research Pharmacy through development and maintenance of innovative barcoding and clinical decision support systems. The Clinical Informatics Research Pharmacist will work collaboratively with members of various disciplines to improve the effectiveness, efficiency, and safety of systems that support investigational medication management. This role works directly under the supervision of the Director of Pharmacy to oversee all the safety-related procedures to ensure that investigational medications are dispensed safely and in accordance with drug sponsor protocols.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Work with Clinical Research Pharmacists an Research Pharmacy to facilitate Beacon Treatment Plan investigational medication build for all new protocols and amendments.

  • Create barcoding workflow to ensure that all investigational drug products have a unique barcode identifier.

  • Work with UChart Beacon Research team to ensure all investigational drug products are built with a working barcode to be used for drug preparation and administration.

  • Work with UChart Beacon Research team to ensure all investigational drug products have the appropriate clinical decision support tools for the providers, pharmacists, and nursing to ensure safe ordering, dispensation, and administration.

  • Build investigational drug library into infusion pump software to ensure safe administration of investigational drugs and reduce potential for protocol deviations.

  • Educate research and general pharmacy staff on the use of barcodes with investigational agents, and how to navigate clinical decision support in the EMR as it becomes available.

  • Establish and maintain downtime procedures for whenever the electronic drug accountability software is down.

  • Actively participates in clinical and research performance improvement programs and committees, as assigned.

  • Responsible for clinical drug protocol review, electronic medical record treatment plan / protocol build review, design of oncologic regiments, etc.

  • Participates in the reporting of unanticipated problems, adverse events, and clinical protocol deviations.

  • Ensures compliance with all applicable governmental and sponsor regulations, laws, and policies.

  • Assists with the development of IDS Pharmacy policies and procedures.

  • Maintains professional competency sufficient to meet the clinical needs of the IDS department, human subjects research office, and the University.

  • Collects and documents workload measurement statistics; provides other data, as required.

  • Completes reports including incident reports, adverse drug reaction reports, corrective action plans, etc.

  • Oversees and instructs pharmacy learners (pharmacy students and residents) as it relates to clinical research pharmaceutical services.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Doctor of Pharmacy

Completion of a Post-Graduate Residency Preferred

Certification and Licensing:

Licensed as Florida Registered Pharmacist

Certification in relevant specialty or field preferred

Experience:

Minimum 1 year of oncology pharmacy experience required
