A day in the life of the Manufacturing Supervisor

  • Demonstrates Thermo Fisher Scientific values – Integrity, Intensity, Innovation, and Involvement

  • Promote a safe and positive team environment to achieve daily production goals.

  • Administer department safety programs so that operative personnel understand and follows safety rules and procedures. Works in a safe manner in order to create an injury-free and incident-free workplace. Follows all job-related safety and other training requirements.

  • Collaborates with operations planners on production scheduling, resource forecasting and overall production capacity utilization.

  • Assign the daily work to ensure schedule completion while leading utilization and efficiency.

  • Handle shift-to-shift communications and reports shift metrics and issues to ensure smooth transition of work between shifts.

  • Communicate cross-functionally to ensure scheduled completion of daily work.

  • Supervise and ensure compliance with ISO/GMP/FDA requirements.

  • Develop and mentor team leaders and production associates on good manufacturing practices, quality based workflows and precise documentation.

  • Review performance of personnel as required, and document required performance enhancement plan as needed or any other disciplinary actions that may be required.

  • Promote Practical Process Improvement and achieve cost saving goals.

  • Develop and advance lean principles, tools, and techniques through leadership and training which will enhance value and minimize waste to enable positive change within the site.

  • Identifies departmental barriers and leads functional teams to implement improvements having a corporate impact. Participates on, and may lead, cross-functional teams having a corporate impact.

  • Gather and analyze production metrics. Identify trends. Collaboratively build a case for improvement.

  • Lead, participate and/or support kaizen workshops, PPI, safety, RCCM; supervise progress, and follow up on post workshop activities.

  • Review and update manufacturing documents as needed (MBRs, SOPs, BOMs).

  • Open and lead problem reports/CAPA/Change Control as needed.

  • Lead by example - using standard work and daily targets to ensure lines are fulfilling customer demands on target.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent required with 3 - 5 years of proven track record.

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Chemistry or Biology or related field is preferred.

Experience

Proven 3 year experience working in a manufacturing environment or related fast paced, impactful environment where leadership is required.

Experienced supervisor, or people leader with 1-2 years of people leadership in an important metric driven environment.

Experience leading, training, and developing teams.

Experience with ERP/MRP systems is preferred.

Prior experience in an FDA/GMP supervised medical device, diagnostics, or regulated industry highly preferred.

Technical and operational knowledge of aseptic processing operations, ability to handle multiple ongoing activities, and ability to prioritize tasks.

Outstanding attention to detail and organizational skills.

Self-starter, mature, independent, and diligent.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment under pressure, able to multi-task and drive for results.

Demonstrates ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.

Effective time management and prioritization skills.

Requires discretion and independent judgment.

Very high degree of social skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public, including tact to handle sensitive matters.

Highly effective verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to empower, energize, and retain key staff by direct interactions with Team Leads and staff.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Consistent track record to follow policies and procedures, instructions, and to meet project timelines consistently and independently.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and other computer based applications to support daily operations.

Strong written and verbal communication, and time management skills.

Demonstrated ability to apply problem solving methodology to understand root cause and implement solutions.

Ability to develop, lead and mentor team leaders and production associates.

Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English, including technical and scientific language.

Excellent written and typed documentation and record keeping skills.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.

Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Ability to work extended hours or weekends as needed.

Physical Requirements / Work Environment

Position requires ordinary ambulatory skills and physical coordination sufficient to move about office locations; ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch periodically for prolonged periods of time; manipulation (lift, carry, move) of light to medium weights of 25 pounds, occasionally pushing or pulling more than 100 pounds; arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp and type for prolonged periods of time; visual acuity to use a keyboard, computer monitor, operate equipment, and read materials for prolonged periods of time; ability to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear for prolonged periods of time. Ability to wear garments suitable for a cleanroom environment, such as cleanroom gown, hair net, beard cover (if applicable), gloves safety shoes and shoe covers. Makeup and jewelry are prohibited in cleanroom environments.
