We have an immediate need for an Environmental Health & Safety Specialist to join our Environmental Health & Safety department. In this role, you will play a key part in Reporting to the Senior Supervisor, Environmental Health & Safety the successful candidate will act to maximize productivity and reduce health related costs. This position will hold responsibilities in Health & Safety, Claims Management, Environmental Programs, and fostering the safety culture amongst many other tasks. Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist in monitoring and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and company policies.

  • Conduct routine inspections and audits to identify potential environmental hazards and recommend corrective actions.

  • Assist in maintaining records related to environmental compliance, including waste management, air emissions, and water quality.

  • Conduct regular safety inspections of facilities and equipment to ensure compliance with safety standards.

  • Identify and report unsafe conditions, practices, and behaviors, and follow up on corrective actions.

  • Assist in the development and delivery of EHS training programs for employees.

  • Support the investigation of accidents, incidents, and near misses to identify root causes and recommend preventive measures

  • Assist in preparing and submitting required environmental and safety reports to regulatory agencies.

  • Keep up to date with changes in EHS regulations and standards to ensure ongoing compliance.

  • Assist in the proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials.

  • Support company sustainability initiatives by participating in environmental conservation and waste reduction programs.

  • Supports Workplace Safety & Insurance Board (WSIB) claims, with a focus on early and safe return to work.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • 2-5 years' work experience in an Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) related position within a manufacturing environment is preferred.

  • Professional EHS designation (e.g. EP,CRSP, AE, CET) is considered a strong asset

  • Knowledge of processing and managing WSIB claims.

  • Previous involvement working with Ontario health and safety regulations.

  • Experience working with the Environmental Protection Act.

  • Effective verbal and written communicator at all levels in the organization

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, along with various other software functions.

  • Ability to manage conflicting priorities and deadlines, as well as managing a large amount of information at one time.

  • Has previous experience with employee wellness programs, health promotion activities, awareness campaigns, etc.

  • Ability to establish and foster continued employee trust enhancing the safety culture.

  • Strong leadership skills

  • Highly effective communications skills

  • Proven ability to solve technical problems and make sound decisions

  • Highly motivated with a demonstrated positive attitude

  • Willingness to learn and acquire knowledge/understanding through study, instruction or experience
