Permian Basin Overview

ConocoPhillips and its heritage companies have operated in the Permian Basin for almost 100 years. The transformational acquisitions of Concho Resources Inc. and Shell Enterprises LLC’s prolific positions in the Delaware and Midland Basins in 2021 further strengthened the company’s position in the Permian Basin. At year-end 2023, the company held approximately 1 million total net acres in the Permian Basin.

During 2023, net production averaged 719 MBOED.

Midland Basin Overview

ConocoPhillips holds approximately 372,000 total net acres in the Midland Basin, which includes approximately 248,000 unconventional net acres located in the heart of west Texas. The company operates over 2,800 producing wells across Midland, Upton, Andrews, Martin and Glasscock counties.

In 2023, the company operated five drilling rigs on average, including two electric rigs. Net production in 2023 averaged 182 MBOED and 106 operated wells were brought online.

Description

If you are selected as the Drilling Engineer, you will be supporting the Permian operating areas and participating in multi-discipline well planning, as well as, developing well plans in agreement with stated well and project objectives. This will be done in full compliance with applicable policies, standards and regulations, with a focus on safety of personnel, environmental stewardship and operational integrity.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Assisting in preparation and submission of all required government permits and ensuring full compliance with all regulatory requirements

  • Assisting in the preparation and evaluation of tenders/bids for all drilling support services and materials

  • Developing productive relationships with the vendor community to align with ConocoPhillips and vendor goals

  • Providing engineering support to drilling operations to ensure delivery of well objectives through daily work with onsite personnel

  • Developing goals and performance metrics, as well as, tracking and measuring metrics and implementing improvements, as necessary

  • Identifying and incorporating best practices from past operations to ensure continuous improvement

  • Preparing and conducting peer reviews and posting end of well results to ensure continuous enhancement

  • Participating in benchmarking studies (both internal and external to ConocoPhillips) to identify, transfer and apply the best engineering and operational practices

  • Promoting knowledge sharing by developing positive relationships with ConocoPhillips' technical subject matter experts (SME's) and participating in ConocoPhillips' network of excellence (NOE's) and industry technical societies (i.e. SPE, AADE, etc.)

Basic/Required:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering or foreign equivalent

  • 3 or more years of drilling experience

  • Willing and able (with or without reasonable accommodation) to travel 10% of the time on a yearly basis

Preferred:

  • 3 or more years of experience working directly for an oil and gas operating company

  • 3 or more years of experience in unconventional reservoir plays

  • Builds positive relationships based on trust and seeks collaboration across organizational boundaries to achieve goals

  • Builds effective solutions based on available information and makes timely decisions that are safe and ethical

  • Delivers positive results through realistic planning to accomplish goals
