Intermountain Health Transportation Customer Service Specialist in Midvale, Utah

Job Description:

This position represents the face of Intermountain Healthcare to customers, patients, and physicians who use Transportation services to transport items between facilities and organizations within Intermountain Healthcare. This position is responsible to take care of the customers' needs by providing and delivering professional, helpful, and high quality service. This position operates a commercial motor vehicle with a GVW between 10,000 and 26,000 lbs. This position typically delivers large quantities of supplies, totes, materials, and large equipment. The position is required to safely load and unload items by hand or by using appropriate material handling equipment.

Transportation Customer Service Specialist II

Essential Functions

  • Safety Awareness: Safely operates a commercial motor vehicle with a GVW between 10,000 and 26,000 lbs., some which require Hazmat placards in a variety of conditions and environments to complete deliveries of equipment, packages, specimens, and supplies. Typically transports large or heavy items that require safe lifting and safe moving techniques. Stays aware of conditions and circumstances that affect one's own safety or the safety of others. Protects the physical well-being of personnel and self against work related accidents, injuries or other debilitations.

  • Service Focus: Ensures the needs of the customer is the primary focus; shows interest in and understanding of the needs and expectations of internal and external customers; demonstrates the need to gain customer trust; meets or exceeds customer expectations; shows willingness to gather and listen to customer feedback.

  • Effective Communication: Cleary conveys information and ideas in a manner that engages the customer, helps them understand and retain the message, and invites response and feedback. Keeps others informed and involved as appropriate.

  • Managing Work: Manages time effectively and accomplishes assigned tasks. Organizes work, sets priorities and determines the correct use of resources. Determines necessary sequence of activities to achieve goals.

  • Initiative: Supports department's goals and objectives. Takes a proactive role in all department initiatives; strives to continuously improve processes and service levels beyond minimum job requirements; takes prompt action to accomplish objectives.

  • Adaptability: Adjusts to dynamic business needs and conditions. Adjusts appropriately to the needs of the situation with a positive attitude and willingness to learn new ways to accomplish work activities and objectives; adapts to change quickly and easily; makes suggestions for increasing the effectiveness of change; shows a willingness to learn new methods, procedures, or techniques results from change.

Required Qualifications

  • Be 21 or older as required by the DOT to operate a commercial motor vehicle.

  • Pass a department specific drivers road test as required by the DOT to operate a commercial motor vehicle.

  • Valid driver's license with no restrictions.

  • A DOT Medical Card and / or the ability to obtain a valid CDL Medical Card (obtained by getting a basic physical from a Physician to assure driver is safe and fit to drive) within 30 days of hire.

  • Demonstrated excellent verbal communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.

  • Demonstrated ability to follow assigned schedule.

  • Demonstrated ability to use computerized tracking system.

  • Demonstrated ability to understand and follow department procedures and practices.

  • Demonstrated ability to comply with Intermountain Healthcare's Motor Vehicle Driver Policy.

  • One year of experience in a customer service or logistics position.

  • Meets the requirements for a routine driver as outlined in Intermountain Healthcare's Motor Vehicle Driver Policy (typically fewer than 3 moving violations in the last 3 years).

  • Experience using internet and email applications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Class C with the hazmat and air brakes endorsements.

Physical Requirements

  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess customer needs.

  • Frequent interactions with customers that require employee to communicate as well as understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.

  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer, phone, and cable set-up and use.

  • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transport, pull, and push equipment. Will also work on hands and knees and bend to set-up, troubleshoot, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.

  • For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

$19.46 - $25.74
