Overview
The Laboratory Equipment Specialist is responsible for the repair of a variety of electronic and clinical laboratory equipment within the organization. The Laboratory Equipment Specialist performs all scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on equipment to ensure a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff at the hospital they serve. The Laboratory Equipment Specialist assists users in the proper operation of equipment and assists with the provision of a safe environment for the use of clinical laboratory equipment. The Laboratory Equipment Specialist maintains a high level of technical expertise and possesses an advanced proficiency to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain a full range of clinical laboratory devices and systems.
This position is approved for 80 hour every two weeks, and is benefit eligible! Responsibilities Job Description
Equipment Maintenance & Repair
Responds to emergency equipment failures as requested by healthcare operations.
Routinely responds to after-hours on-call duty.
Performs troubleshooting and repair of laboratory equipment.
Performs scheduled maintenance in accordance with established schedules and protocols.
Investigates and corrects all equipment failures before returning the device to use.
Identifies, requisitions, and receives parts and supplies necessary for repair and maintenance of equipment. Returns any required exchange parts.
Expedites shipment of equipment and parts to ensure department downtime is kept to a reasonable minimum.
Schedule service and manage communication with vendors. Monitor progress while vendor is on site.
Documentation & Communication
Communicates timely and accurately with customers on work completed, equipment status, and advises for potential alternatives in emergencies.
Performs incoming inspections, attach and assign control numbers and labels, and acquires the necessary information for accurate database inventory entries.
Open and complete work orders in a timely manner.
Maintains records of all maintenance and repairs including contract service work.
Provides technical assistance and instruction to hospital staff on equipment operations and maintenance.
Compliance & Safety
Consistently meets all departmental and organizational performance standards.
Maintains tools and test equipment and keeps work areas clean.
Promotes safety practices and universal precautions in all work and assigned tasks.
Report all safety or near-miss occurrences to management.
Receives and scores new medical equipment according to established risk criteria.
Recommends and participates in the creation of alternative equipment maintenance procedures where appropriate.
Assists with Joint Commission surveys and other audits as directed by management.
Training & Teamwork
Pursues educational opportunities for professional and technical skill improvement. May include advanced equipment training as assigned by management.
Maintain high standards pursuant to hospital policies regarding behavior, professional demeanor and dress codes.
Participates in the process of evaluating and improving the quality and efficiency of service delivered by department.
Provides input to decisions on capital expenses and equipment replacement strategies.
Participate in special projects and complete other tasks as assigned by management.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Two-year Associates Degree in Biomed Equipment Technology or equivalent.
Three years of work experience in a healthcare environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelors of Science in Engineering degree or equivalent
Three or more years of clinical laboratory equipment service or operation.
CLES certification
Additional Requirements (must be obtained or completed within a period of time):
Working knowledge of standard computer applications
Familiarity with regulatory agencies and standards (i.e. CMS, TJC. FDA, OSHA)
