Our client, a successful and growing electrical contracting (construction) company, is seeking a Payroll Specialist to join their team in Minneapolis. The ideal candidate will have union payroll experience, history of providing certified payroll reports, and working familiarity with Sage software, but at minimum, must be skilled and fluent in payroll processes. This role will own the weekly payroll process for the company of <100 people (currently), and act as an assistant to the Controller as a secondary piece of the role. The Payroll Specialist is a DIRECT HIRE opportunity and is required to work fully on-site, so only local candidates will be considered.
Duties
Track wages, hours worked, overtime/deductions/bonuses in order to process payroll
Enter data related to payroll and job costing
Provide great customer service to team members and managers by answering questions, researching discrepancies, and resolving any issues
Process weekly payroll (union and non-union)
Maintain union rates and complete necessary certified (union) reporting
Ensure compliance with tax laws and payroll regulations
Communicate with staff and managers as needed via email, phone, and in-person
Review reporting and cross-reference information to ensure utmost accuracy
Complete operational office tasks such as preparing correspondence and working on special projects
Assist controller with duties outside of payroll to add value to the accounting team
Maintain confidentiality at all times
Other tasks as needed and necessary
Requirements
High School Diploma required
Associates Degree or higher preferred, especially in Accounting or Business Administration disciplines
Experience processing payroll as a sole contributor (union experience highly preferred, but can be taught)
Fluency in payroll concepts and terminology – must have solid foundation in payroll processing
3-5 years working in accounting department
Working familiarity with Sage is highly preferred (or other comparable accounting/payroll software)
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Commitment to accuracy and reliability
Self-starter with a drive and urgency to find answers and adhere to deadlines
Ability to work fully on site in Minneapolis, MN
Schedule
- First shift from 8am-4:30pm, M-F.
