As a Regional Field Service Engineering Manager, you will oversee field service operations, leading a team of 11 Field Service Engineers and Leads. Additionally, you will provide general oversight of the service partner network for your region. Your primary focus will be to ensure there is skilled capacity within Field Service to provide timely, high-quality onsite service delivery and foster employee growth while strategically managing resources to meet service demand in the region. You will need to be resourceful and collaborate with stakeholders to overcome the obstacles that are encountered as part of providing onsite support.
When and where will I be working?
Home Office: Your office will be at your home, located within the region which includes South Dakota, Minnesota, Kansas, Nebraska, Illinois, Missouri, and Iowa.
Travel:You will travel to customer sites within your regional area using a company-provided Daktronics vehicle. This includes meetings with employees, service partners, internal stakeholders, and customers. Travel will vary based on customer demand and regional activities. Occasional travel to Daktronics headquarters for annual planning meetings is also required.
Remote Meetings:Attend and participate in meetings remotely via Teams Video from your home office, ensuring effective communication and collaboration without the need for constant travel.
Work/Life Balance:While we strive for a healthy work/life balance, this position may require working some nights and weekends to support the region. However, most of the work will be conducted during normal business hours.
People Development, Hiring, and Staffing:
Provide clear direction, setting performance expectations, and providing timely and direct feedback to employees and contractors regarding daily activities to encourage employee growth.
Collaborate with HR on escalated issues and recommend staffing needs based on workload projections.
Utilize a comprehensive technical skills matrix to assess and document the growth of field engineers and service partners.
Interview and hire employees aligned with company culture, compatibility, and growth potential.
Collaborate with the Onboarding and Training Specialist to implement established onboarding and training plans for new hires and existing team members.
Regularly meet with employees to promote personal development and technical expertise following our performance development program.
Communicate company initiatives effectively, acting as a strong advocate for the organization. Ensure that team members understand the strategic goals and benefits, fostering alignment and enthusiasm for company-wide objectives.
Running the Business and Improving the Business:
Set workload expectations with Field Engineers and Field Service Leads to ensure workloads are balanced and assignments align with onsite support strategies.
Ensure all assignments are completed on time and with high quality, following standard operating procedures and properly documented.
Review onsite activity and timecards daily, ensuring accuracy and adherence to company policies and procedures.
Develop and maintain regional capacity plans to ensure adequate resources are available for scheduled and after-hours onsite service.
Foster teamwork by emphasizing the relationship between quality work, customer service, and satisfaction.
Swiftly respond to escalations and provide direction to effectively support the team.
Lead and/or actively participate in larger improvement projects.
Drive change to eliminate waste and promote continuous improvement.
Actively engage as part of a “team of teams” framework, collaborating across multiple teams to drive company initiatives. Educate and support team members in understanding and embracing this collaborative approach to enhance overall effectiveness and cohesion.
Ensure Employees and Contractors have a safe working environment.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required; degree would preferably be in engineering or comparable degree.
Supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of personnel and corporate information.
Demonstrated experience interacting with a variety of individuals in a positive, professional manner; prefer previous leadership experience.
Engineering or service experience preferred.
Ability to learn quickly; prefer previously demonstrated ability to pick up technical concepts quickly.
Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills required. Fluent in English, both written and verbal.
Basic computer skills required; prefer experience with Microsoft Office programs and applicable data entry systems.
Demonstrated ability to successfully participate as a member of a team and be able to work collaboratively.
Effectively exercise discretion and independent judgement.
Ability to travel by air and ground. Valid driver's license and good driving record. Motor vehicle records will be checked.
