Job Summary CenterPoint Energy is looking for a Staff Gas Engineering Specialist to join our Team, located in Texas, Minnesota, or Indiana. You will have the ability to lead the review, evaluation, and piloting of tools, equipment, and technologies which are used in the construction, operation, and maintenance of our gas distribution systems, and provides clear recommendations for their acceptability and use in all gas regions. Review and evaluate new gas distribution products, and new or amended codes and standards which affect the future of our operations and communicates these developments to appropriate departments and individuals.Evaluate and assess field problems removed from the gas distribution systems to determine causes of failure, develops recommendations to management to minimize failure re-occurrence and updates operations employees.Must have strong skills in the areas of technical writing, oral communication, mechanical aptitude and ability to have an effective working relationship with a wide range of employees, customers, vendors, contractors, and general public. Essential Functions Provides timely dissemination of company/corporate operating policies and procedures to Engineering and Operations employees for our distribution/transmission systems, dictating that uniform, compliant standards for construction, maintenance, and emergency planning, are provided. Presents Informational Updates to operations employees to communicate new tools and equipment, approved products, manual and regulatory changes, and any issues with existing products. Provides recommended updates to Company Gas Tooling and Material Standards, and Approved Product lists based on changes in established industry standards, changes and additions in government codes and regulations, and products approved through testing and selection and Management of Change (MOC) process. Reviews and evaluates new developments/methods in distribution construction and operations that may have future use in Company distribution systems and communicates these developments/methods to appropriate departments and individuals. Reviews new or amended Federal, State and Industry standards and regulations relevant to gas distribution. Evaluates and assesses field problems removed from the gas distribution systems to determine causes of failure and develops recommendations to management to minimize failure re-occurrence. Maintains all applicable industry and company standards and reference material both historical and current. Provides specific interpretations to this material as needed. Oversees department archived records according to company retention policies. Education Description Two-year technical degree, two years of college-level technical courses, or demonstrated ability to perform the duties of the job with experience in an equivalent position. Experience 10 years of progressive experience in a gas utility engineering or gas system operations. Additional Skills Ability to evaluate federal, state, and local regulations and industry standards relating to distribution systems. Must possess a valid Driver's license and have a safe driving record as determined by the Company. Demonstrated ability to independently manage multiple projects. Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive and effective working relationships with a wide range of employees, managers, customers, bargaining unit representatives, vendors, contractors, and the general public.
