Responsible for managing both external transfer student populations and students transferring from a UMN system campus to the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. This role is responsible for the recruitment of all transfer students and requires general knowledge of all academic programs, as well as in-depth knowledge on a primary college(s) and a secondary college(s), to attract, recruit, admit and enroll prepared students to the University. This role will also have responsibility for a specific special population/specialty area. This role: Requires in-depth knowledge and experience. Solves complex problems; takes a new perspective using existing solutions. Works independently and receives minimal guidance. Must be able to set own goals, schedule, and targets. Must be committed to working with multicultural and under-resourced populations. Collaborates with collegiate colleagues on incoming students' scholarship needs. Transfer Recruitment 35% Collaborate with the Associate Director of Transfer Recruitment to evaluate data and transfer recruitment within a primary and secondary college(s). Assist with communication and coordination of community college advising visits, events, fairs, and application workshops. Plan and participate in recruitment and enrollment activities, including: open houses, general presentations, college fairs, application workshops, visit days, weekly information sessions, etc. Evaluate effectiveness of programming and events while proposing recommendations for improvement to enhance recruitment initiatives. Consistently work to improve efficiency and offer propositions to enhance systems and workflow that contribute to progress of overall UMN and collegiate transfer recruitment. Design tailored recruitment plans for college enrollment to meet short-term and long-term goals. Design tailored recruitment plans dedicated to specific territories and/or specific transfer recruitment focus areas. Plan and execute college recruitment plans through a variety of relationship-building methods. Advocate for incoming transfer students' needs ensuring the college has the appropriate support services in place. Develop public presentations designed to promote the University. Monitor student behavioral trends in territory and adjust recruiting plans accordingly. Establish effective relationships with external partners, e.g. community college advisors. Build brand awareness and reputation in prospective student and parent audiences. Act as a resource for colleagues with less experience, including training on primary/secondary college(s) information and details. Lead projects and/or teams as assigned. Perform various other duties as assigned. Advise Prospective Transfer Students 30% Meet with prospective transfer students to discuss admissibility to UMN. Meet with prospective students and parents to provide individual counseling on educational options and alternatives. Work with students who are admitted as pre-major to other undergraduate programs to develop a transfer plan. Work with students to determine transferability of courses. Work with prospective students to determine a course plan to ensure students are admissible to their intended college/major. Work with applicants during all points of the admissions process to help students complete their applications. Work with stakeholders from transfer admitting programs in the university to ensure strong understanding f program requirements and curriculum. Connect students with resources across the University after admission has been offered. Manage and evaluate transfer recruitment and enrollment trends and communicate weekly updates to the Assistant Director of Transfer Recruitment and other stakeholders, as needed. Maintain responsibility for managing prospective student inquiries and CRM cases and tasks, in a timely manner with extra mile customer service. Application Review 20% Manage transfer application review for primary and secondary college(s). Review applications and make admission recommendations based on academic requirements and program choice compatibility, in coordination with the Assistant Director of Transfer Review. Participate in application review meetings to discuss complicated application cases, as needed. Participate in admission appeal meetings, as needed. Event Management 15% Manage transfer admission events including weekly prospective information sessions, monthly Transfer Thursdays, and Admitted Student Workshops. Collaborate with colleges' to develop and implement programming to support prospective and admitted transfer students as well as increase recruitment to UMN. Manage and update transfer recruitment materials including presentations and handouts. Collaborate with the Visit Office to schedule events, update website and online calendar to advertise transfer event information and create a communication plan for transfer event outreach. Collect data to track visit and event attendance, as well as review and analyze each cycle. Manage UMN representation at community college fairs and visits. Additional Duties for the Senior Transfer Admissions Counselor role: Work to understand the changing transfer landscape and pivot recruitment plans as needed. Interpret data and provide suggestions for implementing changes or new ideas in reflection of what data show us. Guide conversations in best recruitment practices and assist in training new staff with their onboarding process. Assess overall recruitment plans and think big picture about colleges needs and create both long-term planning and adjust plans as needed. Represent the Office of Admissions in university-wide and external stakeholder committees. Qualifications REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: BA/BS plus at least two years of relevant work experience, or a master's degree (for Transfer Admissions Counselor). BA/BS plus at least four years of relevant work experience, or a master's degree plus two years of relevant work experience (Senior Transfer Admissions Counselor). Demonstrated commitment to fostering diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice in practice as part of personal growth and development. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong attention to detail and good organizational skills. Good interpersonal skills, with leadership experience. Ability to multitask, coordinate tasks, and prioritize workload.
