UDIR's portfolio includes a wide range of data and reporting activities including the production of official data required for the University's compliance reporting efforts (e.g. IPEDS, NCAA, MN OHE, HLC), related reporting dashboards (e.g. https://idr.umn.edu), decision support for university leadership, ad hoc data requests, and ensuring the integrity of official institutional data. UDIR is seeking a University Data Projects SQL Developer / Analyst to join a cross-functional team that will support a variety of institutional data initiatives as the University modernizes its technology architecture, working in close partnership with administrative and academic units. This individual will collaborate with other data analysts, developers, business analysts, and stakeholders to understand requirements, develop relevant technical solutions, troubleshoot and resolve data-related issues, and support data reporting and analytics efforts in a wide variety of strategic areas. Hybrid Work Environment Salary Range: $86,000 - $108,000 Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Job Duties 75% - Critical Reports and Projects Develop, refine, and validate query logic for data projects / processes that are new and/or undergoing significant changes. Build, test, and run PL/SQL scripts to query, analyze, and summarize institutional data sources. Crosstrain with others in UDIR to effectively function in either a primary or secondary analyst role in performing the suite of critical reports, projects, and production jobs. Assist in creating snapshots used to produce official University data, reporting, and statistics. 20% - Respond to Data Requests Provide reporting and summary findings at the request of senior leaders of the University in a timely manner. Provide accurate and timely reports to internal and external audiences. Prepare and submit reports regarding institutional data and relevant subject areas, such as student data, human resources, and finance. Develop data and reporting solutions for data requests that involve new metrics or are not well defined or are considered advanced data requests. Ongoing refinement of code/processes to improve efficiencies in ad hoc and cyclical data request processes. Other Duties as Assigned (5%) Qualifications Required Qualifications (please document on the resume): Bachelor's degree with at least 6 years of experience. Demonstrated experience in SQL and database management systems such as Oracle, MySQL / MariaDB, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, etc, or AWS/Azure equivalents. Experience working with large enterprise data warehouses or business intelligence systems. Demonstrated experience promoting a diverse, inclusive and respectful workplace. Ability to work collaboratively and across disciplines with administrators, faculty, staff, and students from a wide range of programs and backgrounds. Preferred Qualifications (please document on the resume): Advanced degree in a relevant field. Demonstrable experience with Oracle PL/SQL. At least 2 years relevant experience in a higher education environment, including but not limited to management of information systems, academic planning, policy analysis, program review, or institutional research. Experience with PeopleSoft products such as Campus Solutions, Human Capital Management (HCM), and Financials. Demonstrated experience working with University of Minnesota data systems / environments. Familiarity with higher education data reporting processes pertaining to compliance / regulatory effor s and other common mission critical reporting tasks, e.g., IPEDS, Common Data Set, etc. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to synthesize and translate complex information when sharing findings or explaining data nuances to a variety of audiences. Strong critical thinking skills, including demonstrated ability to approach problems objectively, draw conclusions, and develop recommendations. Experience working with data governance functions and processes. Experience working without supervision while managing multiple deadlines and priorities. Familiarity with University of Minnesota data policies, processes, and operations. About the Department Institutional Analysis is a unit within the Office of Budget & Finance at the University of Minnesota. Reporting offices and functions include the University Data & Institutional Reporting (UDIR), University Survey and Assessment Services (USAS), Enterprise Data Management and Reporting (EDMR), Enterprise Constituent Resource Management (CRM) and the MyU Portal.
