This position is well-versed in VDC technology and is responsible to promote and provide Virtual Design and Construction services that will support the efficiency and profitability of Knutson Construction projects through pursuit, preconstruction, construction, and closeout process. The VDC Engineer I will use their experience and skills to lead mid to large size projects while simultaneously performing tasks and creating multiple deliverables.
The key job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Proactively delivers The Knutson Experience to all Knutson clients, design partners, trade partners, and fellow employees
Leads the development of models to support operations and field productivity of multiple projects and keeps internal project teams informed of BIM/VDC coordination progress.
Proactively identifies opportunities to prepare various 2D/3D/4D/5D deliverables during pursuit, preconstruction and construction process including virtual mock-ups, site logistics, animations, physical models, and phasing
Independently work with Owners, Designers, and Contractors to prepare and distribute documents that meet project scope and schedule including BIM Execution Plans, Kick-Off Agendas and Meeting Minutes.
Up to 30% of time will be located on site amongst all office locations and job sites to work directly with project teams as required for reality capture, documentation, deliverable creation, or other requests depending on project needs
Gathers survey information as needed to perform reality capture services on site
Leads coordination meetings for sub-contractor and owner team accountability as it relates to project schedule for large scale projects
Collaborate with MEP Project Lead to identify and resolve system opportunities and challenges
Proactively makes requests for model information and coordinates receiving updated models from all stakeholders (i.e., designers, sub-contractors, fabricators)
Assists in deploying VDC software installs and monitoring resource use
Committing time to learning pursuit process and interview preparation to support VDC Manager to demonstrate value of VDC technology
Lead and train project teams in the field using digital construction data and software
Perform quality checks on modeling efforts of trades to ensure tools to support project operations
Validates the accuracy of model data against design team documents and construction on site.
Prepares models and files for Knutson's trade services (i.e., layout coordinates, formwork, shoring)
Manage and identify reality capture needs of projects to produce valuable deliverables to internal and external clients including data collection, scan registration, and file export.
Serves as a resource to provide expertise to internal project teams on BIM/VDC software use.
Advanced troubleshooting and engages software support on various technology.
Execute technology solutions to improve project delivery.
Documents and implements Knutson standards for project utilization
Develops and maintains positive relationships with stakeholders (clients, design teams, sub-contractors, vendors, field staff, etc.) to reduce construction inefficiencies, financial risk, and to increase efficiency and project profitability.
Identify opportunities to capture and tracks data to develop ROIs and Case Study data throughout projects
Proactively proposes, assesses, and implements ideas regarding the future direction of BIM/VDC.
Networks with external contacts to learn about VDC applications and industry best practices.
Attend seminars and presents at conferences on VDC related technology
Respond to and complete all other duties, tasks and/or projects as assigned

Required Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrates experience with multiple project types and contract structures
Proficiency with Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, Sketchup, and Bluebeam Revu
Software Experience with reality capture, model sharing, 3D Printer, and 4D software
Preferred proficiency with Revizto, Recap Pro, BIM 360 Coordinate, Synchro Pro, GrabCAD, Pix4D and Adobe Creative Suite, Procore
Knowledge of infrastructure design and systems with a strong understanding of complex construction detailing
Willingness to be given instruction and follow through with the ability to work independently and within a team
Strong oral and written communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
Strong planning, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills in a cross functional environment
Individual must be collaborative, professional, and positive
Desire to investigate and implement cutting edge technology
Capacity to coordinate multiple efforts with field staff and business partners

Minimum Education and/or Experience Requirements:
Associates degree in Construction, Building Science, Engineering, Architecture, or related field required; Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent experience.
5 years related work experience in Commercial Construction
Minimum of 3 years of specific BIM/VDC process experience
Prior experience in field construction, project management and/or preconstruction preferred
