HIRED Young Parent MFIP Employment Counselor North Loop Office in Minneapolis, Minnesota

POSITION SUMMARY This position will work with disconnected young parents aged 18-24-year-old who have MFIP, are precariously housed/homeless, and have multiple barriers in their lives. The counselor s role is to assist them in re-engaging in school and/or the workforce. The counselor will assist participants to graduate from high school or obtain a GED. Will assist with career exploration options such as post-secondary or short-term training programs. Work is done at the office, in schools, in the community and in the home. Must be willing to do home visits or meet youth in the community. Responsible for the case management, employment counseling and coordination of career and support services for enrolled program participants seeking reemployment and/or economic self-sufficiency. A vehicle, driver s license and insurance are required. Hired offers a hybrid schedule working from home and the office. EXAMPLE ACTIVITIES Conduct timely and thorough one-on-one program overviews with all assigned participants. Assess and evaluate participant s physical, social, vocational, educational and employment situation to determine participant strengths and identify barriers. Conduct one on one career exploration and assessments with participants and incorporate results in goal setting and development of employment plan. Administer appropriate assessment and screening tools per program requirements or guidelines. In collaboration with participants, develop an appropriate plan with specific timelines and measurable goals. Provide ongoing coaching and employment counseling. Assist in coordinating internal and external resources and support services for participants. Collaborate and follow through with other employment service providers, County business partners, businesses, community agencies, and educational institutions on behalf of participants. Monitor and report on participant progress. Maintain electronic case files and case file documentation including uploading all required documents in EDS. REQUIRED SKILLS Ability to work effectively with people of all cultures, economic and educational backgrounds to establish trusting relationships with participants. Skill in counseling/coaching techniques to assist participants in achieving their goals. Ability to problem solve with the resources provided to meet participant needs in a timely manner. Ability to discern and coordinate the delivery of support services needed by participants. Written communication skills that is timely, courteous, and concise to avoid misunderstanding or misinformation. Oral communications skills that display respect, attentive listening, active participation, and appropriate body language. Effective time management and ability to prioritize work to meet the demands of casework. Efficient organizational and planning skills to meet the demands of casework and electronic case noting. Computer proficiency or the ability to learn (examples: Word, Excel, Outlook, and databases) A vehicle, driver s license and insurance are required.
