United States Steel Land Asset Manager in Minnesota

United States Steel is seeking a Land Asset Manager that will be responsible for overseeing the Real Estate Department at Minnesota Ore Operations Minntac facility located in Mt. Iron, MN (near Virginia, MN). This position will manage lands, mineral leases, surface leases, rental properties, business plans, and maintain a working relationship with a variety of stakeholders.

Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop, maintain, negotiate and administer mineral and surface leases

  • Administer and negotiate land sales, leases and easements

  • Manage buffer lands, rental properties and forest lands with the assistance of others

  • Provide field and office administration of surface and mineral lands and leases

  • Conduct field inspections

  • Maintain a close relationship with the following business partners:

  • Mine Engineering to support mine expansions and resource development

  • Environmental Department to ensure compliance

  • Law Department to approve, record and maintain land and mineral records

  • Mineral owners and land managers to support mineral and surface leases and resource development.

  • Joint Venture partners and land managers

  • Submit requests for surface and mineral leases for executive management’s approval

  • Develop and manage business plans

  • Provide support to corporate Real Estate, Strategic and Business Planning, and Engineering

Requirements:

  • College-level degree such as mining engineering, civil engineering, geological engineering, geology or forestry and have sufficient knowledge and/or experience to evaluate mineral, timber and surface values, although candidates with equivalent experience that is transferrable are encouraged to apply.

  • Preference may be given to a candidate with experience in mineral leases, lease negotiations, surface leases, easements, and land administration.

  • Successful candidates must possess strong computer software capabilities and communication skills to support job duties.

  • This is a safety sensitive position requiring drug and alcohol testing
