Description:

The Supervisor of Health Insurance Enrollment at St. Joseph's Health System in Mishawaka, IN is responsible for Supervising and coordinating the day-to-day work of the Health Insurance Services (HIS) operations team ensuring compliance with all state, and federal health insurance enrollment / sales requirements. They supervise education and facilitation, impartially, on the enrollment into various healthcare coverage programs at various HIS locations.

Position responsibilities:

  • Actively demonstrates the organization’s mission and core values and conducts oneself at all times in a manner consistent with these values.

  • Sets the department tone and assures adherence to Trinity Health’s Guiding Behaviors Knows and adheres to all laws and regulations pertaining to patient health, safety, and medical information.

  • Supervises the daily operations of the HIS department activities, including enrollment staff, enrollment, scheduling, staffing, all matters related to public assistance enrollment, underwriting, and brokerage activities.

  • Assures compliance with Indiana and Michigan Department of Insurance regulations for insurance sales and enrollment.

  • Adheres to all Federal Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS), regulations governing health insurance sales and enrollment.

  • Supervises and assures the fair and impartial enrollment services to recipients needing, desiring, and inquiring about health coverage programs are adhered to by all HIE staff.

  • Acts as a liaison between SJRMC and other key stakeholders.

  • Builds effective and collaborative relationships with key decision-makers, community leaders, state, and federal agencies.

  • Coordinates and assures completion of the various trainings, workshops, and seminars held and attended by the HIE staff and new hires.

  • Assures the coordination and attendance to all pertinent and required continuing education programs necessary to maintain appropriate licensure.

  • Facilitate various training seminars, workshops, and Health Insurance Services information sessions for internal and external customers.

  • Supports and assures implementation of all HIS plans, programs, and projects strictly adhering to prescribed deadlines and schedules.

  • Supervises and/or performs specialized research and project services required for the Director and Manager of Health Insurance Services.

  • Provides input on strategic planning, communicating current market research, and analysis data.

  • Assists the Director and Manager of Health Insurance Services in strategic planning with goals and objectives for the HIS department.

  • Performs administrative office functions, such as preparing written communications and resources, handling customer calls and walk-in inquiries, ordering supplies for all Health Insurance Services entities, maintain administrative and department records for associates and customers.

  • Supervises and facilitates administrative activities and performs communications and scheduling tasks.

  • This includes responsibilities for appointments, meetings, and other arrangements, as well as longer-term activities.

  • Maintains excellent relationships with all internal and external customers. Fields questions and resolves complaints from clients/customers and/or agencies.

  • Attends seminars, meetings, and training programs to remain current on issues relevant to areas of responsibility.

  • Reviews newsletters, bulletins, directives, legal briefs, etc., and provides updates and policy changes to all applicable parties. Identifies high-level problems and brings them to the attention of the department Director and Manager of Health Insurance Services for follow-up and resolution.

  • Performs other duties consistent with the purpose of the job, as directed.

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of health insurance underwriting principles, and lines of coverage, including underwriting management and product/program development required.

  • Knowledge of a wide range of healthcare insurance operations, data analysis, and supervisory skills; normally acquired by completing a Bachelor’s degree in a business or comparable field required. Master’s degree in Business, or Organizational Management preferred

  • Indiana, Michigan, Illinois Department of Insurance, ALH License required.

  • Indiana or relative state driver's license required.

  • Minimum of 4-6 years of experience in Health Insurance Sales, Medicaid Eligibility, Children’s Health Insurance Program, and knowledge of state and federal aid programs required.

  • Prior on-the-job training in medical clerical skills helpful. Prior leadership or management skills preferred.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. These communication skills must foster team collaboration, ownership, and accountability.

  • Ability to handle conflict and confront challenging issues in a fast-paced work environment.

  • Must have ability to travel within and outside of the states of Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Illinois, other travel may be required to fulfill job duties.

  • Ability to work in various locations, including but not limited to various areas of the community, including but not limited to physician practices, hospitals, community organizations, etc. based on departmental and/or organizational needs.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, cooperation, tact, and diplomacy are required to influence others to act appropriately both internally and externally to the department.

  • Must demonstrate a cooperative demeanor and be comfortable interacting with a wide variety of people.

  • Leadership ability is required, must supervise the HIE operations team.

  • Excellent computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office products.

  • Assigned hours within your shift, starting time, or days of work are subject to change based on departmental and/or organizational needs.
