The Indiana State Park Inns are one of the oldest state parks lodging systems in the country. We proudly operate seven unique and beautiful facilities throughout our great state of Indiana that offer a unique experience for guests to enjoy the sights and sounds of nature and make memories naturally!
Spring Mill Inn is nestled within the beautiful Spring Mill State Park, in Mitchell, Indiana. The Inn features comfortable 73 guest rooms, the Millstone Dining Room, an indoor/outdoor pool, and banquet/conference space.
Role Overview:
Responsible for the purchasing, receiving, storage, and display of merchandise in the gift shop. Must be able to build business through product selections, consistent quality, and presentation. Accountable for cost controls of sales. Must be able to hire, train, and motivate competent staff. Must be able to communicate effectively with other Departmental Managers and subordinates.
Salary Statement:
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $34,216.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
A Day in the Life:
Ordering high-quality products that relate to our mission, as needed, through approved vendors to maintain an adequate par level for the forecasted business.
Implement and maintain proper receiving and storage procedures.
Able to build product displays that maximize product sales while telling a story.
Responsible for implementing procedures to maintain proper cleanliness and sanitation.
Maintains product cost and labor costs at agreed-upon levels.
Assist customers and guests in the selection and purchase of items from the gift shop for 100% guest satisfaction.
Adhere to established cash control policies.
Check-in orders and confirm amounts according to the packing slips.
Always maintain a clean and orderly gift shop by rearranging stock as necessary.
Maintain a positive attitude when around guests and co-workers.
Coordinate the bi-annual inventory of the gift shop.
Perform monthly spot inventories of certain product categories.
Knowledgeable about the hotel, park, and surrounding area.
Respond to guest inquiries in a professional and timely manner.
Utilize training guides to ensure high standards and efficiency.
Recruit, select, hire, train, and develop competent personnel.
Develop a strategy to meet sales objectives.
Interact with other hotel personnel to meet the objectives of the gift shop department.
Attends weekly/monthly staff meetings.
Pursue new revenue opportunities.
Organize data to determine trends and opportunities for improvement.
Involvement in national, regional, and local associations.
What You'll Need for Success:
Graduate of a college or university, or equivalent work experience
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar roll in a high-volume retail outlet
Above-average interpersonal skills
Strong planning and organizational abilities
Must be able to lift in excess of 30 pounds while twisting and walking
Able to work for extended periods of time standing/moving
This role should expect to work afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Individuals may be required to wear an Indiana State Park Inns-provided uniform.
Ability to hold effective communication with coworkers and guests and assist them as needed.
Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:
This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
