Mobile County Personnel Board Animal Resource Supervisor in Mobile, Alabama

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from a standard senior high school, or the successful completion of the General Educational Development (GED) test, and a minimum of three year's experience dealing with a variety of animal situations, including a minimum of one year experience in a supervisory capacity; or a combination of education and experience equivalent to these requirements..

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:Must possess a valid drivers license from state of residence. Must obtain Euthanasia Certification within one year of employment.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE WORK:

Thorough knowledge of animals and experience in handling them, as well as the equipment used.Thorough knowledge of the administration of controlled substances to animals.

Thorough knowledge of laws and ordinances governing the control of animals.

Good knowledge of general police powers authorized by ordinances.

Ability to make clear, concise reports.

Ability to operate animal control vehicles.

Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions.

Ability to operate a two-way radio.

Ability to maintain financial records and prepare and administer budgets.

Ability to supervise subordinate personnel.

Ability to instruct employees.

Ability to develop work procedures and methods.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with public officials, other employees and the general public.

EXAMPLES OF WORK:

(Any one position may not include all of the duties listed nor do the listed examples include all tasks which may be found in positions of this class.)Supervises the operations and activities of the animal shelter and associated facilities.

Enforces all laws and ordinances pertaining to dogs and other animals.

Communicates and educates the public on the care of animals and laws that pertain to them.

Ascertains that equipment and facilities are properly used and maintained.

Inspects and supervises employees under his/her command and reports their performances.

Oversees the destroying of and disposal of dogs and cats.

Answers complaints of nuisances and stray dogs.

Investigates and handles difficult situations or noncompliance cases.

Makes periodic reports as may be required.

Assigns work to insure that calls for service and complaints are answered quickly and efficiently.

Reviews and studies local and state laws, rules and regulations pertaining to animal control.

Quarantines biting animals suspected of rabies and coordinates with Health Department.

Prepares work programs for patrolling the jurisdiction.

Reviews subordinate's work to evaluate performance and accuracy and to correct any inefficiency or dereliction of duty.

Enforces laws pertaining to cruelty to animals.

Investigates animal bites, cruelty to animals, and dog fighting.

Supervises the maintenance of the animal shelter, associated facilities and equipment.

Maintains appropriate records of animals destroyed; supervises feeding of animals.

Performs related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE WORK: An employee in this class is responsible for organizing and directing the efficient operation of an animal shelter and associated facilities. Work is performed in accordance with established guidelines and procedures under the general supervision of the County Humane Officer, Director of Animal Services, or other superior and close supervision is exercised over subordinate personnel.
