We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer I who, under general supervision of the Modernization Engineering Manager, will provide assistance to the Modernization Team and perform the below Essential Functions.

Essential Functions:

  • Maintain high contract engineering output, good morale and ensure all mechanical engineering activities are performed at the highest standards possible.

  • Mechanical Engineer must strive to utilize processes that will insure the most efficient and profitable output of the mechanical engineering functions.

  • Develop standard mechanical systems/packages to support modernization of existing mechanical systems. Mechanical system packages will be designed without the need for field engineering.

  • Provide pre-bid and other mechanical assistance to modernization support team project managers and branch sales personnel.

  • Perform technical reviews of modernization orders to ensure equipment estimated is compliant with equipment outlined in project scope documents and survey information. Gather information required to clarify ambiguous points and coordinate all activity associated with (internal and external) customer-driven changes.

  • Ensure that the technical solution complies with Codes, regulations and safety requirements

  • Use computer-aided drafting software to generate traction and hydraulic elevator layout drawings for customer approval. Use computer-aided drafting software to complete mechanical detail drawings for special designs used by manufacturing and modernization field personnel to build and assemble components. Get assistance from other engineering disciplines, as necessary, to complete these tasks.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Provide compatibility checks to ensure that mechanical, electrical and fixture components, provided by both the factory and branch interface correctly.

  • Perform calculations relating to: strength of materials, beam integrity and component design capability, using both manual and automated means.

  • Work with purchasing and vendors as required procuring components for special designs.

  • Generate bills of material for manufacturing using automated and semi-automated systems.

  • Create abstracts of the estimate, plans, specifications, correspondence, and survey data that detail all mechanical requirements.

  • Additional duties as assigned.

Specific Knowledge, Skills & Behaviors:

  • Applies mastery of skills in area of specialization; adapts procedures, techniques, tools, materials and/or equipment to meet special needs. - Serves as a resource to others in the resolution of complex problems and issues.

  • Works under general supervision; relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish assigned goals; may orient, train, assign and check the work of lower level employees; may be designated as "lead" worker.

  • Proficient in the use of Computer-Aided Drafting and personal computer-based systems.

  • Technical competence is required. A common sense design approach is much more desirable than a theoretical design approach.

  • Ability to accurately read, interpret and produce construction industry and architectural-style blueprints.

  • Usual manufacturing practices; especially metal forming, welding and machining.

  • Drafting standards; especially ANSI, welding symbols, machining symbols, geometric dimensions and tolerancing.

  • Knowledge or ability to learn elevator code requirements.

  • Knowledge of KONE, MKO and vendor products that can be utilized in a Modernization application.

  • Have strong time Management skills & multi-tasking skills.

  • Excellent written and spoken communications skills.

  • Willingness and ability to travel to elevator installations.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) from accredited university.

  • 1-3 years professional experience; relevant internships during undergraduate will be considered.

  • Demonstrated ability to work as individual contributor in both strategic and tactical work streams.

  • Ability to effectively communicate across a wide range of cross-functional disciplines including supply chain, quality, and manufacturing.
