Project Engineer II- Monaca, PA

ED is an exciting business environment with a complex set of growing businesses, multiple commercial stakeholders, many customers, and regular introduction of new products into the Monaca site. With Construction as a primary industry, there is a high swing in demand during prime season. Short lead times and a significant number of new product introductions and recipe changes requires the capability to be flexible, adaptability to change, and strong leadership and communication.

The position receives broad managerial guidance from the TES Manager. The incumbent must be able to operate independently making timely and appropriate decisions that supports the safety and reliable production and delivery of product.

Monaca is regulated by OSHA PSM standard which is indicative of a high hazard site. The hazardous nature of many of the raw materials, including undesirable reactions, requires technical knowledge of processes and solid understanding of process safety protocols.

Formula for Success: You Will…

  • Developing initial scopes for projects in conjunction with production, development and business personnel by organizing the efforts of the various groups, scheduling reviews and documenting the consensus of the group.

  • Managing monthly project reports and tracking.

  • Independently overseeing completion of cost estimate, project schedules, design and construction for capital projects. Performing (or overseeing work of others) to ensure that projects result in safe and efficient process/installations that are designed to the correct specifications and meet the needs of the business.

  • Supervising others directly (contract engineers and construction contractors) or indirectly (operators and mechanics). Maintaining safe mindset by using experience to train others on potential hazards and ensures efficient work by proper planning.

  • Contributing to operational improvement and safety improvement by monitoring activities at the site and submitting ideas for projects, process improvements and safety improvements on an ongoing basis. Taking initiative to coordinate and implement these improvements.

  • Working within the BASF documented business management system, policies, procedures, etc. (ISO, RCMS, PMS).

Process Safety Management Responsibilities

  • Process safety roles and responsibilities across the organization are clearly defined and include an expectation to raise, and authority to respond to process safety concerns. Senior leaders are held accountable for process safety performance. Employees understand the importance of process safety as it applies to their jobs and are responsible for following and contributing to the work processes to achieve improvement in company process safety performance

Ingredients for Success: What We Look For in You…

  • B.S. Degree in Engineering (Prefer Chemical or Mechanical)

  • Minimum 5 years of Engineering experience with Project Management focus in manufacturing

  • Experience in Project Management including goal setting, Critical Path schedule development, forecasting and tracking.

  • Experience in managing contractor activities

  • Experience in use of technical codes (ASME, API, etc.) and equipment/piping specifications

  • Experience in cost estimating, project scheduling and project construction

  • Technical understanding of general chemistry principles

  • Technical understanding of common chemical plant unit operations and equipment

  • Strong managerial and organizational skills to independently coordinate identification of project objectives, project design and installation activities

  • Understanding of OSHA regulations including process safety management

Preferred

  • Knowledge of SAP functions for project management, technical purchasing and maintenance

  • Understanding of the BASF Capital Project Implementation Process and experience in leading EHS Capital Project Reviews
