ProMedica Health System Patient Care Technician - Inpatient Psychiatry - Part Time - Afternoons in Monroe, Michigan

Position Summary:
Working under the direction of a RN, performs reception, clerical, and supportive duties in the patient care area.
Accountabilities:
Applies the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served (ie: infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric), coordinated and delegated by licensed nursing personnel.
Collects patient data as directed. Recognizes and reports any changes or deviations from routine to licensed nursing personnel, including abnormal vital sign, symptoms, condition changes, patient events, and patient responses to treatment.
Provides guest relations, fields phone inquiries appropriately. Provides support to families and significant others, assisting the nursing staff to meet these needs. Perceived as helpful and friendly to all customers.
Assists in providing unit secretary support including: answering phones, copying, stocking of supplies and chart forms, maintaining adequate unit and patient room supplies.
Collaborates with all members of the health care team and physician offices to promote a seamless patient care continuum. Facilitates prompt, efficient patient services through organizaing, prioritizing, and performing clerical activities.
Assists in preparing patients, physically and psychologically, for treatments, procedures, and studies.
Understands emergency policy and procedures and reports all emergencies and crisis situations immediately and responds appropriately.
Recognizes and reports changes in patient level of consciousness or behavior.
Assists RN/LPN/MHP with seclusion and restraint interventions, provides appropriate application for wrist, waist, and ankles as directed. Assists with care and documentation for the patients in seclusion and restraints as directed.
Assists with one on one patient observation as needed.
Performs any other job related to duties as indicated. Education: High school graduate or equivalent.
Skills: Able to read, write, and speak the English language. Must have excellent communication skills and telephone etiquette. Ability to perform basic math and must have basic computer skills. Ability to deal effectively with a changing environment and be open to new ideas. Ability to function quickly in stressful situations.
Years of Experience: Previous experience as a nursing assistant or proof of satisfactory completion of a nursing assistant program in the last two years.
License: N/A
Certification: Must have CPR – BLS and AEGIS Crisis Intervention Training. Completion of Non-Violent Crisis Intervention during orientation is required.

Years of Experience: 1 year experience in working with the Mental Health population preferred. Experience as a unit clerk in an acute care environment would be beneficial to the position.
