Wage Range: $22.69 - $33.69 per hour. The amounts listed are the base pay range; additional compensation, such as shift differentials and premiums may be available for this role. EvergreenHealth Monroe, a small semi-rural acute care hospital has fantastic opportunities for Patient Sitters to fill day, evening or night shifts in our MSTU and ED.

JOB SUMMARY:

Patient Sitters help maintain a safe and healthy environment for EvergreenHealth Monroe patients, visitors, and staff. Patient Sitters provide assistance to the department clinical staff by monitoring and providing documentation of patients requiring direct visual observation in compliance with EvergreenHealth Monroe's policies and procedures. Additionally, patient sitters assist with patient transport as required, and provide way finding to patients and visitors.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:

High school graduate or equivalent required and current Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by date of hire. Prefer candidates with 6 months of recent experience in a health care setting, customer service experience, behavioral health experience, and/or WA State Certified Nursing Assistant (NC) license.

SPECIAL EQUIPMENT, SKILLS, OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Excellent customer service and communication skills. Ability to multitask and work well during stressful situations. Ability to work productively with minimal oversight. Proficiency in reading, writing, comprehending, and speaking English as required for business necessity. Accountability for HIPAA privacy and security standards within the department or assigned nursing unit. Must possess basic skills to use Microsoft Office, specialized software, and electronic office equipment. Must be able to problem-solve and utilize appropriate resources to provide the highest level of service to EvergreenHealth Monroe’s internal and external customers.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND HAZARDS:

Adheres to all State and Federal regulations pertaining to hazardous materials and BBP. Exposure to communicable diseases. Limited exposure to haz­ardous materials.

SPECIAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Prolonged sitting, Keyboarding, grasping, handling, repetitive motion/wrist

This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement between EvergreenHealth Monroe and SEIU Healthcare 1199NW.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Provides observation and documentation for patients requiring direct and indirect visual observation related to medical and/or behavioral conditions.

  • Redirects patient behavior as needed to promote patient safety.

  • Engages patient in diversion activities as needed.

  • Provides assistance to the unit assigned at the direction of clinical staff.

  • Assists with stocking of department.

  • Coordinates and directs volunteers to assist in patient transport.

  • Attends meetings as required.

  • Refers patient complaints to appropriate manager or initiates reports as necessary.

  • Adheres to organizational patient safety standards relevant to the department.

  • Adheres to the direction of Emergency Department clinical staff.

  • Manages emergent situations by contacting appropriate ED personnel.

  • Acts as a concierge for patients and visitors and is able to provide information of both EvergreenHealth services as well as community services.

  • Must utilize one or more applications to deliver and track patient care.

  • Complete all competencies related to the care/observation of patients requiring direct observation related to medical and/or behavioral conditions.

  • Complete training related to restraints, documentation, observation, de-escalation techniques and regulatory requirements.

  • Maintain knowledge of both organization wide and department specific policies and procedures as they relate to visitation.

  • Maintain good public relations with all hospital staff, patients and visitors through professional mannerisms, appearance, conduct and attitude.
