Job Overview:

The Pediatric Occupational Therapist (OT) helps children develop skills to overcome physical or cognitive challenges and participate in daily activities. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assessment:Evaluate client’s physical, cognitive, and emotional abilities and limitations to determine their therapy needs 

  • Develop treatment plans:Creating a plan with goals, interventions, and timelines 

  • Provide therapy:Work with children one-on-one, in the clinic or their school,  to help them perform everyday tasks and reach their goals.  Apply interventions to maximize safety and performance in activities of daily living (ADL).

  • Educate:Teach the child, their family, and caregivers how to use adaptive equipment and strategies to support the child's therapy goals 

  • Collaboration:Work with other healthcare providers, such as physicians, speech therapists, and physical therapists, to provide comprehensive care 

  • Monitor progress:Tracking the child's progress to ensure they are meeting their goals and adjust treatment plans as needed. Observe, note and report on the progress of long-term and short-term treatment goals.

  • Documentation:Collect data and document processes followed.  Submit paperwork to the agency within established deadlines.

    Skills and Qualifications:

  • NYS Occupational Therapy (OT) license

  • Masters Degree Required

  • Previous experience working with children with a range of maladies, including but not limited to: physical, mental, developmental, emotional or sensory challenges.

  • Strong interpersonal, problem solving and critical thinking skills.
