National Institutes of Health Supervisory Pharmacist Sterile Compounding (IVAU) in Montgomery County, Maryland

Summary The Supervisory Pharmacist for the Sterile Compounding (IVAU) section serves in the NIH CC Pharmacy Department with responsibility for compounding sterile preparations and oversight of staff to help ensure patients receive quality preparations that are free from contaminants, and are consistent in intended identity, strength, and potency. Responsibilities As a Supervisory Pharmacist working in the Intravenous Admixture Section (IVAU), within the Pharmacy Department, your major duties will include but are not limited to: Serving as the Chief of this section supervising Supervisory Pharmacists, Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians. Planning and assigning work and evaluating work performance and training needs of subordinates. Identifying and implementing ways to improve production. Exercising leadership to ensure that all programs reflect the principles of workforce diversity in accordance with EEO. Ensuring the section's compounding of all sterile hazardous and nonhazardous products comply with all relevant and current regulations, standards and procedures (i.e. USP, FDA, and TJC). Ensuring that the appropriate and necessary guidance including SOPs are available to staff. Ensuring the section staff maintains facilities, equipment, and materials through cleaning and signs off processes. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Ideal Candidates: IVAU Supervisory Pharmacy - The ideal candidate will be an exceptionally talented, knowledgeable, and motivated pharmacist with extensive experience with IV Room operations, USP <797>, and USP <800>. Candidates must have good communication and people skills and be able to work in a fast-paced environment. Project management and process improvement experience in a complex health system is highly desired for this position. Basic Qualifications: A. Education: A doctoral degree in Pharmacy that is recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (external link) (ACPE) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained. OR B. Applicants who have a bachelor's degree in pharmacy may also qualify contingent upon an additional review of your qualifications. Licensure: Applicants must be licensed to practice pharmacy in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Specialized Experience: In order to meet the minimum qualifications for the position described above you must have at least one year of professional pharmacy experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal Government obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following: Utilizing a wide range of pharmacy concepts, principles, and practices including knowledge of the laws, regulations, and accreditation standards including USP <795>, USP <797>, USP <800>, and/or cGMP; Supporting research protocol design, and implementation; Interpret regulatory guidelines, policies and standards; Analyze clinical problems amendable to drug therapy; Effectively communicate methods and techniques in order to organize and present technical information to patients, colleagues, students and others: You will receive credit for all experience material to the position, including experience gained in religious, civic, welfare, service, and organizational activities, regardless of whether you received pay. Additional Information This position is designated as an "emergency essential" position and the selected candidate will be considered an "emergency essential" employee and will be required to be available, ready, willing, and able to report for duty under all circumstances (e.g., inclement weather, government closings and holidays, lapses in appropriations, non-emergency and emergency situations) for operation 24 hours a day and 365 days per year coverage.
