Montrose Memorial Hospital Medical Laboratory Technologist - Full Time - Evenings Sunday - Wednesday - New Salary Range in Montrose, Colorado

    Position Overview:

    Performs various testing in the core lab to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Applies techniques used in the field of hematology, serology, chemistry and molecular. After one year of successful training may perform Microbiology and blood bank testing. Records test results, quality control, remedial action and may also engage in research.

    Essential Functions :

    a) Responsible for performance of laboratory procedures and reporting of test results; monitoring test analysis and specimen examinations.

    b) Responsible for careful handling of chemicals and infectious material to protect all laboratory personnel: collection of blood and other specimens under aseptic conditions.

    c) Responsible for care of expensive scientific laboratory and judicious use of materials.

    d) Responsible for supervising a department, section of testing or shift as assigned.

    e) Responsible for additional duties as assigned.

    Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to see, talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and use hands along with fingers, to handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

    Qualifications & Skills:

    Education: Associate Degree in chemical, physical or biological science or medical laboratory or

    equivalent education and training. Required courses and training must include:

    a). At least 60 semester hours, or equivalent, from an accredited institution that, at a minimum, include either 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses; or 24 semester hours of science courses that include six semester hours of chemistry; six semester hours of biology and twelve semester hours of chemistry, biology or medical laboratory technology in any combination.

    b) Training and Experience: Must have at least 3 months of training in each specialty in which the individual performs high complexity testing. Training may include previous employment, on-site or as part of an education curriculum.

    Job Knowledge: Complete operational ability in all lab areas.
