Paralegal - Legal Department
The Legal Department is seeking a new teammate! We are looking for a well-organized, flexible, dependable team player with strong attention to detail, problem solving ability, and the skills to conduct legal research and provide office support duties for the City Attorney.
This diverse position is responsible for:
- Conducting legal research, including reviewing case files, public records, codes, laws, statues and title searches.
- Assisting in preparation of legal documents such as right-of-way agreements, water and sewer easements, audit letters, leases, ordinances, loan closings, deeds, and closing documents for real estate transactions; disburses funds, secures proper execution of documents.
- Maintaining files, legal library, and records for the Legal Department; preparing spreadsheets documenting actions.
- Drafting and transcribing correspondence, agreements, bid documents, proposals and other documents.
- Preparing legal notices, securing publication in newspaper and proofing ads.
- Scheduling, securing information and preparing documents for various meetings. Selects appropriate materials to answer questions and often handles inquiries independently.
- Arranging reviews of legal documents, obtaining signatures, and notarizing documents.
- Performing office and administrative duties, including assisting with budget preparation, covering front desk for receptionists break, answering calls and emails from citizens, purchasing supplies, fills in for City Clerk and attends Council Meetings as needed.

The Basics
Graduation from high school; a post-secondary degree in related field is preferred. One (1) to four (4) years of paralegal work in a public or private sector work environment or equivalent combination of education and experience, with local government experience valued. NC Notary Public or ability to become a Notary within 6 months of hire.
Salary:
This is a non-exempt position and anticipated hiring range is $46,021 - $69, 031 annually ($22.12 - $ 33.19 an hour), starting salary will depend on experience and qualifications. Applications may be obtained online at
