Valley National Bank Data Engineer in Morristown, New Jersey
The Data Engineer will design, develop, implement, and optimize enterprise data solutions for our cloud-based data platforms including Valley's Data Lake, Enterprise Data Warehouse, Data Marts and ETL interfaces.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Design and development of ETL pipelines, data models, queries, scripts and maintenance procedures.
- Identify opportunities to optimize performance from "end to end" perspective.
- Ability to collaborate and partner with business domain leads, data scientists, product owners, enterprise architects and other functional leads to deliver enterprise data solutions. Collaborate with foundational solution functional teams, vendors, and technology support teams to build and deliver solutions on business initiatives.
- Delivery solutions through a minimum viable product (MVP) and subsequent iterative cycles of development.
- Prepare and maintain design and architectural documents for management and development teams.
- Design and develop Cloud-based infrastructure both real-time and batch ETL processes.
- Build multi-dimensional databases and data marts.
- Participate in the development of data management policies, standards, and procedures. Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability.
- Interface across several business areas, proactively assisting in defining project direction with business stakeholders.
- Communicate complex technical information to project stakeholders, including those without a technical background to capture non-functional requirements.
Required Skills:
- Hands on development experience in one or more of the following: SQL, Python, Spark, Cloud-based ETL tools.
- Expertise in development of ETL interfaces, Data Warehouses, Data Lakes, and Analytics solutions.
- Experience with Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks and Snowflake preferred (similar cloud technology experience also considered).
- Demonstrated technology and personal leadership experience in designing and building highly scalable cloud-based data solutions.
- Enterprise scale knowledge of data management best practices such as data integration, data security, data warehousing, data analytics, metadata management and data quality.
- Knowledge and experience in modern data integration frameworks, highly scalable distributed systems, and emerging data architecture designs/patterns.
- Strong knowledge of Operational, Analytical, Master, and Reference data models.
- Experience with Data visualization tools such as PowerBI is preferred.
- Experience with Agile methodologies as well as waterfall development.
- Experience in DevOps, CI/CD technologies is desirable.
Required Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in quantitative/relevant field such as Statistics, Operational Research, Computer Science, Economics, Mathematics, Data Science.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience with large and complex systems in a financial institution with data solution architecture, design, and development delivery experience.
- Expertise in data warehousing, Building Operation Databases, Data integration and Development design patterns.
- Experience as a Data Engineer, Database Developer, Data Modeler, Data Architect or ETL developer.
