Atlantic Health System Manager, Clinical Services in Morristown, New Jersey

Atlantic Health System, Department of Dentistry is seeking a Manager, Clinical Services. Required hours vary; Weekends/On-Call (as needed)

Responsible for managing the clinical, operational, and financial activities within the dental department. Works collaboratively with dentists, residents, clinical departments, nursing, management, faculty, and other stakeholders to ensure: timely patient access to care, operational efficiency, department productivity, fiscal integrity and patient satisfaction. Primary responsibilities include: human resources management, practice business development, daily operational efficiency, effectiveness, and regulatory compliance.

Essential Functions:

  • Develops, implements and manages annual capital/operating and personnel (FTE) budget. Uses resources effectively and manages expenses to meet financial goals of department(s).

  • Contributes to the strategic planning process, day-to-day operations, standards of care or service, and attainment of organizational goals. Facilitates collaborative problem solving among interdepartmental disciplines. Advocates for and allocates available resources to promote efficient, effective, safe and compassionate care or service based on current best practice standards.

  • Ensures the requirements for Compliance and Mandatory/Required Elements for staff (Immunizations, Conflict of Interest, licensure, Continuing Education and safety training) are met.

  • Responsible for unit or department performance and compliance with patient safety initiatives, federal, state and other regulatory bodies such as Joint Commission, OSHA, CMS, DOPL, and other department specific accrediting and certifying bodies. Ensures achievement of clinical program goals (as appropriate) and implements action plans to improve performance as needed.

  • Effectively uses professional and organizational best practices to ensure the delivery of quality care or service. Participating member of a professional organization appropriate to position and service line. Facilitates and encourages staff participation in professional organizations and professional development.

  • Implements and role models company vision, mission, values, and facility initiatives and goals. Monitors and improves patient satisfaction utilizing available service metrics and national benchmarks to develop and implement action plans to achieve desired outcomes in patient engagement goals.

  • Models and fosters an environment of professionalism and employee engagement in the department. Responsible for recruitment, retention, and employee engagement. Responsible for creating an effective department culture which ensures an engaged workforce. Interfaces with resident applicants, scheduling their interviews and seeing it through to final resident selection and onboarding for a successful resident program. Manages department work and vacation schedules to ensure department’s staffing needs are met.

  • Ensures sufficient staffing levels to meet care and/or service needs, which include hiring, orientation, and managing staffing to a changing census. Ensures that new skill training and ongoing competency verification is completed annually. Evaluates staff competency through use of performance reviews and may utilize peer reviews. Mentors staff and provides professional educational opportunities. Utilizes participative management models. Promotes shared decision-making and professional autonomy by providing department input into executive-level decisions, and by keeping staff informed of executive level activities.

  • Partners with dentists at the department level to achieve clinical, operational, and service goals as appropriate. Completes the call and clinic work schedules for 105 Attendings, schedules lectures and completes all resident reporting.

  • Communicates to staff and encourages participation in opportunities for community outreach activities (e.g., health fairs, middle and high school education). Manages, coordinates, and supports student activities as appropriate. Supports staff participation in outside community organizations such as volunteer health clinics, health fairs and advisory boards for not for profit organizations.

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • RDA License or Hygiene License required.

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

  • Excellent communications skills.

  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite including Word and Excel.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents.

  • Ability to speak effectively.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Experience in conducting complex long-term projects and meeting strict timelines.

  • Proven strategic and long-range planning skills.

  • Strong organizational skills and team building skills.

  • To provide a safe environment to our patients, we require that all candidates must be able to read, write and speak English.

  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare management or related field required.

  • Education must be obtained from an accredited institution.

  • Master's degree in Business, Healthcare, Finance, or Accounting preferred.

Relevant Experience:

  • 3 years of healthcare management experience preferred.

  • Demonstrated expertise in leadership, mentoring ability, organization, and problem-solving skills preferred.

  • Knowledge of Dentistry environment and clinical terms strongly preferred..
