UNC Health Care Supervisor Accounting (CPA) in Morrisville, North Carolina

Job Summary:

The System Accounting Supervisor position is responsible for coordinating and supervising day-to-day accounting functions, including general ledger, cost accounting, taxes, investment estimates and insurance funding. Prepares reports, reviews and reconciles data, and participates in the development of specialized financial data. Researches and resolves discrepancies. Oversees and prepares entries and adjustments to records, files, and statements.

Description of Job Responsibilities:

  1. Accounting - Ensures accounting functions and duties are accurately and promptly completed. Ensures smooth workflow by establishing effective schedules and balanced distribution of work. Prepares journal entries and balances work in more complicated accounting areas. Oversees account reconciliation and balancing. Researches and resolves accounting errors and discrepancies. Follows-up to ensure corrections are recorded. Assists with budget preparations and financial analyses. Prepares reports and statements for management. Ensures accounting functions are completed in accordance with established procedures and applicable regulations. Recommends changes to procedures when warranted.

  2. Tax – Experience with Federal and state/local tax preparation and filing (forms 1120/1165 and CD-405/D-403) . Prepares monthly for-profit corporate federal and tax estimates for accrual purposes. Prepares annual federal and state extension estimates. Ensures that amounts are paid to taxing agencies. Experience preparing/reviewing non-profit Federal information returns (Form 990 and 990-T). Experience with sales and use taxes. Ensures that monthly estimates are computed and paid and returns are timely filed. Ensures that annual refund returns are timely filed and refunds are received. Experience with property taxes. Ensures that property taxes are computed, accrued and paid on a timely basis. Experience interacting with external consultants pertaining to income tax filing processes.

  3. Investments – Experience with monitoring investment activities and joint venture activities. Ensures that monthly estimates are properly reported on appropriate entity financial statements. Ability to track financial activity for each investment and address questions from stake holders regarding the investment results.

  4. Audit Notes – Experience preparing investment/bond/debt notes for annual financial statements. Review year-end financials for debt, joint ventures and investments and coordinate year-end entries for purposes of annual reporting on audited financial statements.

  5. Project Management: Responsible for program and project assignments working independently or collaboratively as appropriate to accomplish the more complex Accounting analysis. Identifies issues and develops strategies to address them prior to issue becoming critical. Keeps leadership informed of project(s) status and any potential problems or political concerns. All assignments are completed on time within the boundaries of the agreed upon delivery date. All outcomes are explained to customers and concerns are constructively resolved.

  6. Leading People: Leads people toward meeting the organization's vision, mission, and goals. Ensures that departmental goals match those of the organization and that resources are allocated to meet priorities. Establishes an environment that creates incentives for, and eliminates barriers to, a team environment. Articulates common goals and communicates how individual roles contribute to team success. Conducts evaluations and tracks LMS training for their employees. Involved in the hiring, training, and termination processes and day-to-day management. Has sign off approval for various employee tasks.

  7. Reporting & Analysis: Validates and analyzes data relating to Accounting metrics. Develops and maintains reports. Proactively works to improve reporting (value-add, efficiency, quality, speed) and delivery processes considering all available technologies.

  8. Results Driven - Exceeds departmental and organizational goals and customer expectations. Makes decisions that produces high-quality results by applying knowledge, analyzing problems, and calculating risks. Delivers high-quality services and demonstrates commitment to continuous improvement. Understands the overall financial performance of the Health Care System and applies financial concepts and practices to monitor overall financial status of operations.

Education Requirements:

● Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Licensure/Certification Requirements:

● CPA required

Professional Experience Requirements:

● If a Bachelor's degree: Five (5) years of accounting experience including complex financial analysis and reporting, along with some exposure to preparing data and reports that support strategic financial recommendations to key executives in an organization.

● If Masters Degree: Two (2) years accounting experience

Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:

● Previous supervisor or team lead experience preferred

Understands and appropriately applies principles, procedures, requirements, regulations, and policies related to specialized expertise.
