Professional Rank and Salary Range: Rank and salary, $50,000+ depending on qualifications

Duration: 10-months

Brief Description of Duties:

SUNY Morrisville is offering a tenure track faculty position in our Associate and Bachelor degree equine science program.

Instructional responsibilities will focus on the Hunter Seat riding discipline

  • Particularly upper-level specialization courses in Hunter & Jumper riding

  • Could include any aspect of the equine industry (both lower and upper level courses) as related to the successful candidate's areas of expertise.

  • Coordinating summer programs with Hunt Seat ISA.

Hunt Seat herd management

  • Assisting in daily care, health and maintenance of lesson horse herd.

  • Involvement in procurement of new horses and establishing relationships with various equestrian professionals throughout the region and beyond.

  • Recordkeeping, sales and leasing for program animals

Candidate will be a collaborative team member of the Equine Science department

  • Responsible for implementing progressive teaching and program development

  • Work with accounting to develop program budgeting

  • Entrepreneurial activities and public service in their area of expertise and related discipline.

Contribution to academic community though service at departmental, college, and/or university levels will be expected. Additional duties could involve student recruitment, academic student advising and retention, student club advisement, internship supervisor and course and program assessment, academic review, ISA supervisor and program promotion. Coaching IHSA Hunt Seat riding team may also be potential duties associated with this position.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education Requirements

  • Professor designation: Masters Degree in Equine Science, or related discipline

  • Instructor designation: Bachelors Degree in Equine Science, or related discipline

  • Demonstrated understanding of and experience with current equine industry practices

  • Experience in starting and finishing training in hunter/jumper industry, & experience in showing horses in the respective discipline.

  • Experience teaching or working as an instructor with strong interpersonal and communication (both written and oral) skills.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the potential for 1) excellent teaching, 2) academic and career advisement of our undergraduate students, 3) contribution to department's continuing and developing instructional, entrepreneurial and recruitment activities, and 4) effective teamwork within a diverse array of students, colleagues and equine professionals.
